Discussion: SCOTUS Conservatives Show Little Issue With Texas' Delay Tactics In Voting Rights Case

This case is ripe for the conservative justices to do their form of results-oriented judicial activism. Unless Kennedy balks, expect Texas to win.

This kind of nonsense will only be stopped by a change in the make up of the Supreme Court.

Hold on there: In geologic terms this case has merely taken a wink and a mere hiccup … and maybe also another hiccup and a cough and sneeze and another wink … but still … it’s only been seven years since the redistricting.

You’re an optimist. Myself? I have to wonder what these “Constitutional lawyers” can be thinking.
Do they think like those who want to restrict voting for some citizens?
That it’s OK to suppress the vote of some segment of our citizens?
I’m asking both rhetorically and earnestly.

Gonna repeat myself here.

If the law permits gerrymanders, if those are the judicially affirmed rules of the game, there is no good exemplary reason for Democrats not to gerrymander whenever possible, to the maximum degree consistent with the law. It would be politically suicidal and morally wrong for Democrats to adopt any other policy. Indeed, since the likelihood is that GOP hacks will form a majority on Supreme Court for the next decade (or two), the best prospect for gerrymandering law reform will come when the GOP judges realize that their partisan mission has backfired.

“… conservative ideology in American history…”

When one considers how mean and inhumane have the referents for the word “conservative” become,
it’s effectively a code word for all that’s nasty in human nature becoming legitimized.

Alito is a subhuman animal unfit to sit on the Supreme Court. This is an illegitimate court lead by illegitimate trash like Roberts, Alito, Thomas and the king hog in the pen, Gorsuch. I pray they are all hollowed out by cancer.

Hey, Alito … hows that ‘no foreign cash in US elections’ going. Satan take you and your co-conspirators.

US Conservatives are Not conservatives at all. A conservative would fight to the death to make sure The US voting system was fair and accurate and trustworthy. John Roberts will go down in history as the worst Chief Justice…anti-Democracy!

This makes me sick. But, WaPo is reporting that a federal judge not only upheld DACA tonight, but is ordering that possible recipients may begin applying again. Take that, Trump and Kelly!

If I’m a US Corporation that is very aggressive and exploits customers and workers, I immediately move my headquarters and incorporate outside the US! The right wingers on the court have ignored standing legal precedent and the fact that the constitution is a living document…not a static document set in 1776!

The so called conservatives (Republican fascists) are destroying America and making us a broken society under white nationalism and central authoritarianism (Nazi rule)!

The tribal politics of the country have invaded the court to such a degree that it has become almost useless as an instrument of justice. As the Republicans are top loading the federal judiciary as fast as they can, this is not a temporary situation. Trump has a golden list handed to him by the Federalist Society and even if Trump exits early Mike Pence is right there to make sure any possible opening is filled with more just like Roberts and Gorsuch. Due to lifetime appointments, there is no relief in sight. This kind of stacking cannot be undone by wave elections or anything else.

rptwiz We had our shot in 2016. The voters played games with our country and blew it up.

Alito still thinks that their Citizen’s United ruling was just peachy. Obama was right to call him out.

Mr. Chief Justice, you say that the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. But what if those who are doing so just keep doing so?

The meaning of the word conservative has changed in jurisprudence just as it has in politics. It used to mean measured, moderate, incremental; now it means particular stances on particular issues. If Kennedy is really a traditional conservative he’ll follow Kagan’s and Sotomayor’s reasoning. I worry that he may be ready to retire from the Court, leaving That Fool with yet another stolen seat to fill.

Call them out…1.202.479.3000 or 1.202.479.3011 ask for public information officer… Roberts deleted the emails 6 years ago?..

Justice delayed is justice denied…
