Discussion: SCOTUS Allows Trump Admin To Enforce Its Transgender Troops Ban

As a retired LTC, another bonehead move by the administration that can’t do anything straight.

Gee, and here I thought I was being very restrained…

Sometimes I really do hate this fucking country. The narrow minded bigots are winning today; seems like they have been doing a lot of winning in the last two years.

Breyer is as reliably liberal as Kagan. I don’t put tooooo much stock in these kinds of charts, but it’s helpful illustration.
Breyer is one of the good ones.

The Christian right believes our military’s purpose is to wage Christian holy war on the rest of the planet (and here if it becomes necessary in order to secure the permanent white Christian hegemony that they believe this country is supposed to be). Infidels are equal to traitors in their minds, so of course a trans person is considered nothing but a liability to the sanctity of the war effort.

And these assholes are deeply embedded in the Trump administration, including and especially that stupid moron VP.

And that the military itself must be purged of everyone who isn’t either a white dominionist or cannon fodder.

This is the SCOTUS you get after decades of maneuvering and outright disruption of any norms by Republicans determined to hold on to power.

These are the policies you get when the government is being run by mean brickheaded prep school boys who have never had to worry about money or a career and believe they have earned everything they have.

Everything is a wedge issue from here on out - all thoughts of what is actually best for the country are right down the garbage disposal.

Oh, you stupid assholes. What have you done.

I’ll bet the fundies won’t like this. Whatever will they do when they’re not reading their bibles or lecturing everyone on how to live.

hahaha!

In March 2018, the Trump administration announced that after studying the issue it was revising its policy. The new policy generally bars transgender individuals from serving unless they serve “in their biological sex” and do not seek to undergo a gender transition.

So, essentially, if soldiers are willing to lie to everyone else about what truly are, the regime has no problem. Enlist all you want but be - “normal.” This is essentially don’t ask, don’t tell (don’t act) on another level.

I wonder when the ban on gay soldiers gets put into effect. Because I’m sure that Pence has that next on the to-do list.

Normal Freedom: Everyone’s business is their own business as long as it doesn’t interfere with someone else’s business.

American Freedom: Everyone’s business is everyone else’s business, and people must be policed in their behavioral choices at all times.

I’d go with that if it stipulated a penalty of $1 million for every non-porn site blocked by whatever nanny software, payable from the state legislature’s salaries to the ACLU.

The SCOTUS decision is particularly sad and evil because they pretended not to make a decision – all they did was lift the stay while the case is making its way through the courts (which may be years yet) and cause irreparable damage to thousands of young patriots. They might even decide the other way (yeah, right, but still possible given the crap nature of the order), but that won’t matter for the people whose lives are messed up now.

More to the point raised by @sniffit about the permanent white Christian hegemony, Jay Sekulow, a member of Trump’s personal legal team, is also Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice. ACLJ is a d/b/a for Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism, Inc. It is a politically conservative, Christian-based social activism organization “dedicated to the ideal that religious freedom and freedom of speech are inalienable, God-given rights. The Center’s purpose is to engage legal, legislative and cultural issues by implementing an effective strategy of advocacy, education and litigation to ensure that those rights are protected under the law.”

Lest there be any doubt, his co-founder in ACLJ was Pat Robertson. And now they have a front row seat in the White House.

And this is another big reason Senate republicans are content to let Trump stay in place.

Trump during the campaign:

“Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.”

Fucking wanker.
