Discussion: SCOTUS Allows Same-Sex Marriage To Go Forward In Kasas

Roberts and Alito are corporate sellouts, probably not too hung up on gay marriage…Scalia and Thomas, however, are just primitive.

Laffer is right up there with Ponzi in my book.

Artemisia, TLQ, Don’t give up on yourselves. I’m not implying that you are (or were), but dating or not dating doesn’t really matter. Be with your friends, and believe in yourselves, first! Everything else is just gravy if you’re happy with yourself.

Similar, but different boat, I am married, but have chosen not to have any kids. I only presume the flack from family and friends is similar. My wife and I are both the youngest of five kids. My family has been mostly conservative about having more of their own. My wife’s family? Her sister is on her 22nd grandkid. And she’s only 53. Great grandkids can only be one or two years away.

End of story being we all have our reasons for doing (or not) what we do.

It isn’t easy for most people, in my opinion, and it hasn’t been easy for me and my same sex partner, for 42 years, and spouse, for six years; but it has always been rewarding!

I think the supreme court is going to send the 4th circuit back for reconsideration in light of their rulings in this and other refusals to stay.

As a matter of public policy it is not wise to accommodate or encourage homosexuality.  Let’s look at health as one example: homosexual male behavior is disease-ridden.  Don’t take my word for it, look at what the homosexual’s own literature has to say.  “About 35 in every 100,000 HIV-negative gay men and about 70 in every 100,000 HIV-positive gay men develop anal cancer, compared to less than one in every 100,000 heterosexual men”; enter this as a quote into a search engine and you will find multiple links to pamphlets about “gay” health containing this tidbit in an effort to guide homosexual men to safer – not safe(!) – “sexual” activities.  Also, “Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis and gonorrhea also occur in sexually active gay men at high rates.  Men who have sex with men are at an increased risk for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B infections.”  There are other damning things as well in these brochures. Search the two quote strings I gave and see that they come not from “right-wing extremist” web pages but from pro-homosexual organizations!  Their own literature condemns them, and in a very big way.

This is a HUGE tell. If the Justices were going to lower the boom on SSM, they would have done it here. Instead, the Justices were 7-2 in favor of allowing SSM. When and if the SupCt grants cert on the appeal from the 6th Circuit, they are going to rule in favor of marriage equality and SSM will be legal everywhere. Oh happy day.

Most of my relationships have been with myself, unfortunately.

“I wish I could quit me!”

Yep, STDs are always a concern for our species, gay or straight. Thanks for the excellent argument for monogamous marriage.

Are you referring to the 6th Circuit?

Normal farm hands would like to know if the can marry any of the cattle they tend. Just because a friend asked them to, of course.

“Preachers who will never say, love is the only consequence, then ransom GOD to the clouds, bleeding the passion of one who’s been, pious these fablers smile and beckon you heed an’ follow in, to mazes of will-o-wisp chasing the shadows of those who’ve seen”

Congratulations on the six year anniversary!

I wouldn’t count on Alito. He’s a mean-spirited skidmark, like Scalia and Thomas, but he has his own brand of mean and might not want to get lumped in with Frick and Frack. He might be planning a separate dissent when/if the full court finally hears a case on same-sex marriage.

Gays can marry other gays, reactionary religious nuts don’t have to marry anyone they don’t want to, and the earth will keep spinning on its axis.

I assume you mean the 6th Circuit – it’s the outlier on Circuit decisions on these cases (so far), and I’ve read the majority opinion – it’s pretty bad: avoids the Equal Protection issue completely, goes on and on about the “voice of the people” being the determining factor (which is in direct contravention of Supreme Court precedent), and sets states’ rights above the federal Constitution, in direct contravention of the Supremacy Clause.

I’d like to know the source of this “literature” you’re so enamored of. Without links or citations, I’m going to assume it was put out by Scott Lively or the FRC.

What incredibly stupid right-wing bullshit.
