Discussion: Scott Walker: The Perfect Conservative?

On paper, Walker is the ideal conservative candidate.

In practice, he’s a bumbling buffoon with zero foreign policy knowledge and nothing but cocksure hubris on which to base his campaign.

He’ll make some horrifying gaffe soon enough, and all his dreams of power will crumble into dust.

Not really “perfect” but a prime example of the impact of things like the citizens united ruling and the removal of Glass-Stegall have had on the political spectrum. all that moneys created people like Walker…

He is on there:

SIX THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
1
SCOTT WALKER IS GOVERNOR OF WISCONSIN AND THREATENS TO BRING WHAT HE DID TO WISCONSIN TO WASHINGTON.
2
AS GOVERNOR, WALKER LAUNCHED A CRUSADE AGAINST WORKING WISCONSINITES AND GUTTED WORKERS’ RIGHTS. EARLIER THIS YEAR, HE SAID THAT IF HE COULD TAKE ON 100,000 TEACHERS, SOCIAL WORKERS, NURSES, AND OTHER WORKERS WHO PROTESTED HIM, HE COULD TAKE ON THE BRUTAL TERRORISTS OF ISIS.
3
WALKER’S BUDGETS GUTTED EDUCATION AND HEALTH CARE WHILE HE GAVE NEW TAX BREAKS TO BIG BUSINESSES. HE EVEN CREATED A FAILED GOVERNMENT AGENCY THAT HAS SENT MILLIONS TO HIS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS.
4
WALKER REJECTED FEDERAL FUNDS TO EXPAND MEDICAID AND PROVIDE HEALTH CARE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 152,000 PEOPLE, WHICH WOULD HAVE SAVED THE STATE $400 MILLION OVER TWO YEARS.
5
WALKER FELL FAR SHORT OF HIS PROMISE TO CREATE 250,000 JOBS IN HIS FIRST TERM AND THE STATE’S ECONOMY LAGS BEHIND THE NATION WHILE BEING RANKED AT THE BOTTOM IN THE MIDWEST IN TERMS OF JOB GROWTH.
6
PROSECUTORS ARE STILL PURSUING AN INVESTIGATION INTO CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATIONS FROM WALKER’S CAMPAIGN, AND SIX OF HIS AIDES HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONVICTED FROM YET ANOTHER INVESTIGATION.

Perhaps it wasn’t when you first visited it because he wasn’t a declared candidate? But he is most definitely a contender.

That’s a pretty big problem no matter who wins the GOP nomination. And they are quite aware of it. Their strategy is to grow the white vote, to turn out even more white voters than they did in 2012, because they figured there were 7 million fewer white votes in 2012 than there was in 2008.

The problem with this approach however, is that Romney captured more of the white vote than Reagan did, yet still lost by almost 4 points. If we only change the votes based on demographic changes, Romney loses by almost 6 points in 2016.

And Hillary will probably capture a bigger percentage of the white vote than Obama did (white non college voters, of which Romney won, will decrease by 1% by 2016…white college voters, of which Obama won, will increase by 3%). So even getting out the white vote is actually harmful to them at this point; its only the non college educated white voters…and when you start slicing up the voter segments that small to try and compensate for losing every one else, you are definitely in a death spiral.

Trump is a joke, but Walker is as serious as a heart attack. If he wins the GOP nomination, or even if he’s on the ticket as VP, all Democrats need to unite against this existential threat to the United States.

She should. The Clintons have always done fairly well with white voters, including blue collar ones. Bill won Kentucky both times, and Hillary polled much better than Obama in the traditional white, blue collar districts.

Demographically, the GOP could be looking at a electoral loss that will keep the MSM babbling about a changing America for years. Trump and rest of the GOP are literally driving the Hispanic vote into her arms; she is going to extremely well with women voters, will receive 90+ percent of the black vote. If she does even marginally better with whites than Obama did, she could be looking at a 10 point win. That’s a high estimate, but certainly not out of the ball park (7-8 is probably more reasonable…but is still a landslide).

This is exactly the “perfect” candidate that I hope runs on the republican side. If that happens we will see who wins the battle between his sort of policies or the democrat policies. We should want such a clear fight. All reading of Walker suggests he’s a great campaigner - - bring it on and let’s see where the American people fall on the issues. If the Dems win then I hope the republicans get the message that FAR RIGHT policies are done with on the National stage. If the more moderate Bush runs it will be less clear what policies the national electorate are in favor of.

Yes. Yes he is. He is the PERFECT Republican Candidate (i.e. sociopath)
He is:

  1. Vindictive
  2. Uncaring
  3. Corrupt
  4. Easily Bought, but greedy enough to trust
  5. A really, really good liar
  6. Has no moral compass whatsoever
  7. Has no ego attached to his candidacy
  8. Is only in it for the money and power
He can lie to the face of the knuckle-draggers and they will LOVE HIM FOR IT.
He can take the Koch Bros. money and be a reliable stooge for their desires.
He can smirk, and wink, and stroke the MSM to their hearts content (fully funded by the Koch machine.)
He is a very dangerous man. Ignore him at your peril.

A Republican nominee selecting Scott Walker as a running mate is exponentially graver for the nation than the Vice Presidential “Game Changer” in 2008.

There would not have been a motion picture depicting the Trainwreck Sarah Palin represented had a large chunk of the American electorate thought of Palin as being at least halfway competent.

The same cannot be said about Scott Walker. Alongside of the spate of Republicans competing for the nomination, Walker will come across to swing voters as bland (and therefore as “serious”) as Jeb Bush (who, other than being bland, has not done much else)

And Bush is, as we speak, the top-rated Republican candidate.

Bush-Walker

A very bad idea.

In theory, on paper that is. Walker in real life is a calamity. The media will carry him a while but the watershed moment is upon him.

Being more conservative means alienating more people but thrilling the base. We couldn’t ask for much more except possibly numbnuts himself, Trump, to be the candidate.

I have no problem with your optimism. In fact, at this time especially, it is what we need. My pessimism is probably based (along with my being the son of a military officer who never wanted to be surprised in the Field) on the transition I usually have to make between a young adulthood spent with people who never had the opportunity to vote as freely as people do in the U,S and the culture we have in the United States, here and now.

I disagree: Scott Walker has a personal appeal that Romney completely lacked. He isn’t the son of a rich guy and won’t make gaffes about car elevators and such. His combination of extreme positions along with his “reasonable every-man” presentation make him a viable candidate. I’d like to think his lack of a college education would exclude him from consideration for the presidency but there is a large swath of the voting public who’d like to vote for someone like them rather than an “elitist” college graduate. We underestimate Walker at our own peril!

But they’re 99% successful at all the little underhanded things their nonresident billionaires really want, like making it easier for the insurance industry to deny claims and easier for legal persons but harder for real people to file lawsuits.

The only one I disagree with is #7 … he is ALL ego

And the D’s lack broad ‘bench strength’ in WI.

The Democrats ran the same sad sack in the recall who lost to Walker the first time around. Walker won his second term running against Mary Burke; her highest elected position was to the Madison School Board.

My personal favorite Republi FAIL is Wisconsin voter id law. Walker has outsourced the production of ID cards to a nonresident firm, and the temporary licence you get from the DOT is nothing a 12 year old couldn’t fake on a bubble jet printer. So it’s actually easier than ever to commit the nearly nonexistent fraud they said they were trying to prevent

Paul Ryan couldn’t get Wisconsin to go for Rmoney, and Walker is even less popular in the state. More likely that the VP slot is reserved for a Hispanic or female sacrificial lamb.

Won’t happen.
The Koch Bros. support Walker, and hate Bush.
Wall Street Bankers support Bush, and hate Walker.
More likely is: Bush/Rubio or Walker/Paul
In a perfect world we would get: Trump/Palin (hey, a guy can dream can’t he?)

I am not underestimating him. I have long said that Walker is probably the best positioned candidate on the GOP side, in terms of appeal across the various wings, his relatively unknown name to most of the low information voters, his “every-man” fake persona, and his financial backing by the Kochs.

But so far, his campaign has been pretty bleak. He jumped out to an early lead, (never good, especially in the GOP today…see 2012 frontrunners), made a series of gaffes, and then got put on the sidelines by his own staff, He has been the very last candidate to comment on anything in recent weeks. Even his announcement has been met with a great big yawn as the media is bored with campaign announcements and is ga-ga over Trump.

I still think he wins Iowa, but he doesn’t seem to be making much of an impression beyond there. And while he has the money to go the distance, he is very green at national politics. I’d say there is a pretty decent chance that he self destructs before the convention right now.
