Um, health care is the economy, well 18% of GDP anyway. That’s double the OECD average, and the US still doesn’t have universal health care. To my mind at least, moving towards something rational like the Swedish model makes tremendous economic sense. Getting to the Singapore 4% model is probably out of the question as so much free-ridership has been allowed in the US.

oh really, chuck…? congress is incapable of handling concurrently issues of unemployment and a massive bill that would most certainly address that concern? cause, you know, the issues are intertwined. it’s your fucking job to understand and explain it to the press and your constituents.

Sometimes it’s really difficult to remain a democrat!! I can’t not accept so many of the right’s beliefs, I can not change. But damned it to hell where are the true democrats!!!

STFU, sir. Another apologizing idiot Democrat. Better Dems for public office, please.

Why not? They have an asshole governor too.

Even Paul Krugman says a bigger stimulus wouldn’t have passed. But Obama and Democrats created unrealistic expectations for a fast recovery, failed to scream about filibuster abuse and GOP obstruction from the start, and needed a better campaign to drive turnout of young and minority voters in midterms (still do). Had to do healthcare before 2011.

The stimulus was passed, and pissed watered down while the (ostensibly) filibuster proof majority existed for a very short while as I recall.

Pronouncements by this guy remind me of someone’s quote years back that the most dangerous place in DC is between him and a news camera.

Oh, the part about If I were President, thank GOD sir, that will never happen.

The realistic take is this economy, sits in low gear because of wage stagnation, lack of infrastructure investment, broadband upgrades and so on.

That these sorts of projects will (must be) embraced at some point by the FEDERAL government, in spite of the Federalist cult and their paymasters The Fred C. Koch twins that own and are driving the GOP.

Shuck Fumar.

I agree. Fiscal stimulus should have been the absolute overriding focus, with Krugman as consultant in chief. ACA was a worthy goal, but it didn’t put people to work like CCC. This is what happens when we elect executives with no prior experience.

No, it wasn’t. Financing one’s healthcare is an important economic issue. This man apparently knows next to nothing about domestic economics.

Fix the economy? How? Make the bail out big enough to have worked? Dems tried that, they couldn’t get it passed.

Schumer is a dick.

Yes, we’d be worse off and with nothing to show for it.

Just another clueless politician. The people wanted healthcare. Healthcare was the right thing to do. If Dems had had the guts to go for a public option, the Congress would not be overrun with nutbag Republicans today.

I agree with Chuck. They should have spent a couple weeks on some mass indictments of Wall Street.

Then they could have moved onto health care.

I’m not sure I understand your comment.
Are you agreeing with Schumer, and/or arguing that the country would have been better off if we did not pursue healthcare reform when we did?

And inaccurate hindsight to boot. Didn’t deal with the economy? Google “bikini chart” – oh, don’t bother, here:

Of course, as historically massive as the stimulus was, the economic disaster that was the culmination of decades of conservative policies needed it to be even bigger, and not to have a third of it wasted in less-effective tax cuts in a futile attempt to get the Republicans to be part of the solution and stop putting party first. Nevertheless, it was still effective, according to virtually every professional economist but those in thrall to the wingnuts. But of course, the mistake Chuck won’t acknowledge is to have let the GOP tar it, and Dems, as a failure, with the giddy assistance of our esteemed media, and not pushed back relentlessly at the top of their lungs. Running away from Clinton and their own accomplishment in 1993-4, from Obama and their own accomplishment in 2009-10, and the same in 2013-14 – there’s you’re fking lesson, Chuck. For the sake of the country, learn it already.

And yet Obama was elected again in 2012.

I say “Fuck you, Rahm” regularly. He’s an asshat just like Schumer.

How wrong can a man be? Healthcare reform has been a massive blessing to so many people. But this guy, whose main focus is Wall Street, could care less about ‘the little people,’ apparently.

Don’t forget running from Clinton in 2000 as well…
