Discussion: Scholar Claims There's An Errant Period In Declaration Of Independence

Obviously Obama has conspired to pervert the meaning of the declaration by going back in time 225 years and changing the document to further his socialistic agenda. Good thing there are other copies to prove this out. Issa needs to convene a hearing immediately to get to the bottom of this conspiracy.

Hey, good luck, scholars of the actual academic world, getting the Congress of the Damned and a by-necessity 3-card Monte president and those High Priests of Defedestration in the SCOTUS cave to go along with ‘fixing’ the pure innocent truthie words of Baby Jesus hisownself writ down in the Holy Constitution. I give 'em about as much chance as all them folks talking up Constitutional Amendments to ‘fix’ the misreading of the entrails by the High Priests and Constitutional Conferences guarded by Patriots exercising their God-given Open Carry rights to keep out libruls, feminazis, immigrantista, fags, treehuggers, islamoterrists and all other such commie scum.

Anything that strengthens the notion that government is constituted to secure said rights is a good thing, though I don’t see how the period alters or weakens the idea.

What I’ve never understood is why they didn’t use plain English when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. Were they talking about militias, or Wild Bill Hickock.

Seems kind of clumsy either way. If they wanted to set off “among these are…pursuit of Happiness” they ought to have double hyphens on both sides, as in

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights – among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…

I believe it is an error, why would you ever follow a period with a dash? And I agree with the scholar that if this is all one sentence it presents government as the defender of individual rights rather than the libertarian view promoted and funded by the Koch brothers that any government at all is an infringement on individual rights.

This happens when you send a 16 year-old to college before he’s really ready, (or before he had a high school diploma).

It’s just a small point.
