Discussion: Schiff Warns Trump Against 'Saturday Night Massacre' Redux

Trump likes causing chaos. It’s entertainment.

Plus, there’s too much at stake now.

We are moving ever closer to a grave constitutional crisis with both Rosenstein and Mueller fired. In that event, since Republicans have shown themselves to be either accomplices of Trump or feckless in the face of his transgressions, we will have to depend upon the military, sworn to defend our constitution, to step in, arrest Trump, and restore the rule of enlightened law. If he would so blatantly choose the route of totalitarianism, apparently legally, we could not wait until 2018 for relief. With all the power in his hands, along with the help of Russian buddies and his faithful deplorables, the outcomes of those elections would be uncertain. Hitler rose to power legally in Germany. All because of conscienceless Republican leaders, perhaps themselves part of the rabbit warren of connections to Russian money, our military may be our only hope to limit the flow of blood and preserve our democracy. I would never have thought this possible until now. God and good sense help us.

“President Trump believes that he has the power to fire anyone in government he chooses and for any reason, including Special Counsel Robert Mueller,” Schiff wrote Friday.

Trump immediately responded by threatening to fire Schiff.

If this isn’t enough to cause the entire staff to line up and flip on Trump to the FBI, then watch him because he’ll do something that does cause that very soon.

So, Scalise might be the only literal bullet…
Metaphoric? You may fire when ready, Gridley.

And silence from the right is deafening. McCain? Graham? Hello?

Awesome. The flailing is going to ramp up logarithmically now.

Trump will not be able to leave this unanswered and may respond in an impetuous and bigly way. Say goodbye to Mueller and Rosenstein unless someone can get to him with a straight jacket, muzzle, and a goodly number of sedatives. Or “sedagives”

Somebody help me out here. I keep seeing implied or explicit claims from knowledgeable people that DT has the authority to fire Mueller directly. It is my understanding that he does not and that only the AG or deputy AG, etc can fire Mueller. Which is correct?

I realize it may be semantic because DT could fire Rosenstein, but then he has to fire more people before he can find someone who actually has the authority and inclination to fire Mueller, right?

Seems kinda important, so it drives me nuts to see these mutually exclusive views tossed around as if they are interchangeable.

It is my understanding that only the acting AG or the AG can fire Mueller. Of course the President can “order” whoever that is to fire Mueller. Then they can go down the line after that person quits or is fired and each subsequent person who fills the role and refuses to obstruct justice. If he finds someone to play Bork, ok. That’s how Nixon fell.

Trump is like a drunken sailor, but it should be noted that he apparently doesn’t drink alcohol and was a chicken shit when it came to serving in the military. As such, he is even more dangerous.

Trump is a small little man and the weakest president I can recall in my entire lifetime, which really has some meaning since I’m getting old.

Speaking to reporters in an off-camera briefing Thursday, deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that Trump “has the right to” fire Mueller as special counsel but “has no intention to do so.”

Does he, really?
Okay, Mr. Trump, say to Mr. Mueller “You are fired,” and let’s see what happens.
