One of the genuine, toxic dangers of Trump is a (well justified) criminal prosecution. Which will lead the Republicans to spend the next two generations seeking to criminally indict every subsequent Democratic president. That is exactly what happened after the Nixon (near) impeachment. Truly we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

This was brought up in another thread, but if he’s simply impeached and not also removed from office, then he gets lifetime Secret Service protection. Plus all the other post-office benefits like diplomatic passport, federally funded staff and office space, etc.
So what does “jail time” mean for a guy with lifetime Secret Service protection and a funded staff? Maybe house arrest, and not in one of his fancy digs. Anyway, that’s the best reason to hope for not just impeachment but removal from office, slim as those odds are with the current senate. His time after office will be cushy and protected otherwise, regardless of any conviction.

Eh, not sure of that. If you convicted him of extremely serious crimes, imposed house arrest in some modest dwelling, and required him not to communicate with the public—which I think would be necessary because he’s a security risk—I think he would find it extremely onerous. Attention is a very close second to oxygen to a person as sick as he is. So is the avoidance of shame, and he couldn’t. Everything in his existence would scream at him that he’s in disgrace.
