Was Nune’s actions a violation of House Rules or the law? If so, what action can be taken against Nunes? Is he one of the people accidentally caught on tape? What a messy road we are traveling down!
And if it is proven there was coordination between Trump and Russia which subsequently leads to him being forced from office, then we need a new election because the entire process was illegitimate. I would not accept a President Pence as legitimate.
I know it would be unprecedented, but this whole affair is unprecedented. I’ll leave it to others to figure out the logistics.
Or he is losing his memory so that many things seem new to him? Or yes, he really is that ignorant.
i don’t know, man. i never thought it could possibly get this far (though i could never have actually conceived of a situation like this, quite honestly). and still, as recently as this week, “reasonable” and educated republicans that i know, while somewhat critical of trump’s more base demonstrations (tweeting, his demeanor and words and acts during his meeting with merkel, etc.), STILL are not willing fully to condemn him or his administration, because tax cuts.
and as someone who works in a federal building in DC, i can tell you that fear and anxiety is palpable. so as far as “even if the politicians don’t stand up for the country, the little people will,” i don’t know, man. people are scared shitless.
i don’t think the status quo is sustainable, but i don’t know that that necessarily means things get better … i think it’s 50-50 between GOP Congressmen/Senators TBD standing up and the whole fucking republic just imploding and collapsing.
And clearly the FBI knew of this situation when they released the “gossip piece” about Hillary’s email just days before the election!
I’ll give you a dime to a dollar that there were “discussions” and that Trump or someone on Trumps team put him up to it via blackmail or some other nefarious means . When you listen to the two separate conferences he held and the fluctuations in the script…
Something stinks
i agree with the idea that the whole election – which installed Pence as next in line – was illegitimate, if it turns out there was coordination. but i don’t see there being a new election, as much as i think that’s what should happen.
And she still won the popular vote by 3 million you Orange-follicled Flapdoodle.
To speed things up, can’t we just make a trade for a Russian Supreme Court judge for a Drumpf SCOTUS pick to be named at a later date? Throw in a draft pick or two?
But remember how long it took for Watergate to develop before the pressure became too great…
Somebody ask Schiff to run for President in 2020 please…
Jesus. This is nigh incomprehensible. I particularly got a kick out of him taking time to explain that “wiretap” is not specific and then going right back to saying he was actually wiretapped.
Trump clearly a narcissist.
I’m not saying things will move in a clear direction; rather, I suspect that the situation will become even more crazy, with facts more muddied.
That’s an interesting question. But there are two specific matters to be considered here.
First, is the question of an independent committee/special prosecutor. I think Ryan ends up folding his tent on this fairly quickly. Nunes really screwed things up on that front yesterday, leaving Ryan with no fig leave to cover himself. He will try and kick the can down the road a bit, but I the voices yelling it for are going to build now, and eventually Ryan will concede.
Secondly, regarding Nunes himself. After the issue of an independent committee/special prosecutor is dealt with…there is no longer any issues going before the Intel Committee on these matters. So Nunes stays (This is part of why I think Ryan ends up folding on the above point…but only a part). Until such time that Comey lays out a criminal case against Nunes specifically, which will include his actions yesterday. At that time, the pressure will grow from various other areas for Nunes to resign his position, and probably his seat. It may even get pushed back till after the 2018 election, and steps are taken during that to ensure Nunes is ousted from Congress. That would be the ideal situation for Ryan, problem solved without directly pissing off Trump or any group in his fractious caucus.
And to be honest, the first point is really the more important one right now. And there is definitely a case to be made against mine. By the time Ryan gets around to dealing with those requests/demands, he will be in a much weakened state, due to the the bill he wants a vote on today. And such a decision will not be made by Ryan alone…McConnell WILL be weighing in on any special prosecutor scenario, and WILL be burning Ryan’s ears off on whether or not to set up an independent committee in the House. (even though that would be entirely up to Ryan at the end of the day…the political reality is a weakened Ryan won’t be making any decisions on his own). So Ryan is going to be receiving pressure for lots of directions to NOT do these things.
But I think even Ryan can read the writing on the wall. And Nunes actions yesterday were SO over the top, that really the only choice he has is…when, not if.
I read his tweets this morning. I want him destroyed and found whimpering in a corner sucking his little thumb.
I can appreciate that. I’ve often thought, in the midst of our own generally peaceful and comfortable lives, how little we realize how quickly it can all go wrong for any society. I remember my own fear after the election. We’re not wrong to be afraid for our way of life when our key institutions prove this weak. One key fact I can’t discount, though—Trump is a crazy person for whom fucking up royally is a longstanding way of life. He’s in this deep with the Russians precisely because of that. I just don’t see him prevailing. I have some hope we’ll survive the heart attack. If we do, we can look at some long-term civic lifestyle changes. We’ll need them. And we all have to stay positive. Ever had a serious health scare? I have. But here I am still. : )
Its not just unprecedented, its unconstitutional. And it won’t happen. Same with scenarios that some like to toss around about installing Hillary, or reinstating Obama. Those things aren’t going to happen.
The process would be impeaching the President, and continuing down the line of succession as needed until you find someone not indicted/under indictment. And then let the voters decide the matter in 2020. That is when the new election for the President will happen.
Ok, the election wasn’t fairly fought, but it was not illegitimate. Reasonable (?) people should still have seen the obvious fact that Trump was not presidential material, but enough of them were flim-flammed/conned/persuaded, in the states where it mattered to vote for him. Political “advertising” run amok, but voters voted for him.
So the next steps seem to be for Dems in the House to continue to shout loud and long about the harm being done even though they cannot stop legislation, and the Dems in the Senate to prevent everything they can from passing while loudly proclaiming the harm in committee hearings and any other opportunity.
No appointments should be confirmed, but that’s up to the Rs. All legislation should be blocked. And keep building to the mid-terms and try to get both houses back.
Select committees and special prosecutors need to be called for every day. And yes, Trump should resign, but Pence’s agenda will need to be blocked just as hard.
The country must fight back.
The speed of the modern news cycle as well as the amount in which Trump has pissed off the IC, i suspect it will at a quicker rate, though not quick enough for our liking.
It is, however, important to take down Pence as well.
Trump may be enough “pound of flesh” for the media to move on. This will be better for repubs that want to pass regressive legislation.
I orefer a weakened Trump hanging around the necks of repubs than an emboldened Pence and Republican Congress.
