Discussion: Scalise In 1999: 'Most Important Thing' About KKK Leader? 'He Can't Get Elected'

From Wiki:

[Scalise’s] district had the lowest percentage of African-American residents among the state’s six-district Congressional delegation.

Surprise!

Seriously, though, this is the same seat previously held by Bobby Jindal and before him, David Vitter. Those poor folks in Plaquemines Parish are used to being embarrassed by their representatives.

How much you want to bet his popularity in his district shoots up by a good 5-6 points on this?

At least David Duke is honest with himself.

What looks like a bug to normal humans can look like a feature to others

Ah. Then things aren’t quite how Scalise described them yesterday, are they?

The thing about people who believe in an ideology of racism is that their bigotry has convinced them that the people they look down upon are much too simple to see through their lies. Scalise seems to have thought that we are all too stupid to find out the truth about his cozy relationships with the leaders of white supremacy, but oh, he was so wrong. Only a single day after his ridiculous explanation that when he talks to people, he “didn’t know who all of these groups were,” the truth is emerging.

I’m sure the voters who elected him in their district have the same values and agree with both he and David Duke on “conservative issues”.

Boner thinks Grimm resigning is “HONORABLE”. So don’t expect Boner to do anything about a little racism in his ranks.

What makes you think those folks are embarassed? If anything they are proud that these elected folks reflects their views and beliefs. Those votes knew exactly who they were voting for.

But, if y’all turned over that rock, how many other Republicans would you find? Mitch McConnell? Rand Paul? …?

I have to wonder whether this is really a scandal for the Republicans, or is this a carefully-managed PR roll-out? Liberal critics’ attacks on Rep. Scalise could actually boost his appeal among many conservatives, especially the growing neo-con(federate) base of the Republiclan Party.

Way back when it was OK Scalise? But now you gotta disown your previous views?
Isn’t that a … flip flop?

First you’ll hafta wait for that “sober day”.

I doubt this brings him down. A Republican who has never spoken in front of a racist group would really be newsworthy. This is just par for the course for the GOP.

Why it’s ludicrous, ludicrous I say, to think that Scalise has anything in common with David Duke. Other than he agrees with Duke on many conservative issues, and actively courted his supporters votes a mere 3 years after the “novelty” of a former Klansman running for Congress wore off, and, um…Yes. Ludicrous. Ahem.

Look over there! Benghazi!

Scalise rhymes with Sleaze who loves to Please

the ones who wield the powerful swift sword

as they go marching on.

Grumpy Grimm lost his drinking duel with Drinker of the House, Boehner. Looks like Sleezy’ Scalise is next in line.

Shorter Scalise: “David Duke can’t get elected because everybody recognizes him. We need a man with the same views, cut from the same white supremacy cloth, and who is the same caliber as a human being as David Duke but can smile and pretend not to know David Duke; he CAN get elected…I’M YOUR MAN!”

Even this type of thing is usually too much for Republicans. The game is to blow the dog whistle and toss out a little red meat while winking and nodding to the base, and when you’re accused of racism you just feign innocence and victimhood. That’s how the same is generally played. He got caught not only blowing the dog whistle but doing it in front of an obviously racist group led by one of the most well known racists in the country. If he’s punished it won’t be because of the crime, it will be because he was stupid enough to get caught.

Fox “News” will blame this meeting on Obama in 3 … 2 … 1 …

Shocked, SHOCKED I tell you that he agrees with the KKK and attends a White Supremacist event seeking votes.

But hey, black people are too dumb to figure out which party the racists are these days.
