I knew someone years ago that went through a really long, complicated process to be able to be able to move there. They were small farmers out west so donā€™t know if that made it more complex or not, but it was not easy. Maybe things have changed.
Last year, while still out west I met a Canadian that had married an American and was finally able to get residency in the US. He and I talked politics and wonder if he still thinks it was the right decision.

In 2017 Canadian law changed to allow adult children of Canadian citizens to apply for citizenship there. Baby boomers who were not previously allowed to become Canadian citizens. Hubby and I both have a parent born in Canada. Cousin has family home in Nova Scotia. I need to be very close to an urban area. I would go insane in a small town. And must be close to good medical facilities. Other than Halifax the province is mostly rural.

I love curling. My husband and I curled frequently when we lived in Manitoba.

A friend and I have wanted to go to the Celtic Colors festival on Cape Breton for the last couple years, but things didnā€™t work out. Hopefully weā€™ll have another shot at it this year.

Iā€™m also a Canadian - American dual citizen living in the states right now; I feel the same way.

Years ago, I heard this story from a U.S. diplomat in Germany. One of his pals worked at the Canadian consulate. The American was complaining to the Canadian one day about the horrible public image that the U.S. got, thanks to the impressions people got from movies and TV shows. His Canadian buddy said, ā€œat least you have a public imageā€, and told this story:

The Canadian was visiting an English-as-second-language class. They were doing a vocabulary exercise. The teacher would name a country, and the class would, in English, offer things that they associated with that country. They started with the U.S. ā€“ gangsters, cowboys, oil barons (this was back when Dallas was showing J.R. Ewingā€™s machinations on TV screens worldwide), etc.

Next, the teacher said ā€œCanadaā€. Long pause.

Then someone said ā€œtreesā€. (The Germans love forests, and actually run tours to Canada to see the woods.)

Another long pause.

And someone said ā€œmore treesā€.

But now, at the rate things are going, Iā€™m thinking that Lady Liberty might soon feel more at home in Toronto Bay than on Liberty Island.

Just read that. I think if I were a Saudi women and couldnā€™t get out, I would seriously contemplate suicide.
