Discussion: Sanders To Supporters: 'We're Not Fringe Players Anymore'

Mind reading now? I knew you were crafty, but that’s going over the top!

Outrageous?

I wonder how many Hillary humdingers were expressed by Bernie staff members in their emails during the campaign. Too bad that the Russians didn’t leak the Bernie staff emails.

Oh, so the boo’s are the equivalent of someone calling Obama a Muslim? Come on, lose the outrage. He’s said that we have to elect Clinton and Kaine, but I guess that’s not as important as taking time off during his speech to discipline his audience.

Oh please sanders supporters have only solidified the fact they are fringe political nut cases

I’d say there’s some passive aggressive behavior at the bottom of how he’s responding. He loves their adulation and support and so on, but he’s still gotta say get out there and vote for Clinton/Kaine.

@inlabsitrust You may have seen this earlier when it was posted here. I’d like to see Clinton’s opponents who seem to among Bernie’s supporters speak out against the real outrage

It is time for the United States (and the United Kingdom) to pull their weight: by publishing more evidence, by signalling political consequences for the perpetrators, by treating Wikileaks as a legitimate counter-intelligence target, and by providing not only physical but also improved digital security to candidates and campaigns in the future.

@carlosfiance It’s becoming apparent the Russians are behind it as they seek an alliance with trump who’s already telling us what he would do in league with them. He’s probably broke, needs their money, and they need to crush NATO. It’ll work for him and for Manafort.

“And we have got to elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine,” Sanders said.

The crowd launched into a bunch of “boos.”

Very classy, guys. Enjoy watching your Constitutional rights go down the shit hole under President Trump.

Cry me the Nile. A few people boo while he’s telling everyone that we NEED to vote for Clinton, when we have polling showing that 90% of his supporters will indeed vote for Clinton, and because he doesn’t interrupt his speech to pay them obeisance and feed their trolldom, you’re going to ignore that they were booing in the first place because he was telling everyone to vote for Clinton? You guys lets me know when you’re done being silly and self-righteous.

You hit the nail on the head.

No. I dislike Clinton without any prompting from Sanders, and his scolding me or not would make no difference. I will vote for Clinton and Kaine because of Trump, not because of what Sanders tells me to do, or not do.

Sorry, but that doesn’t even come close to holding water…at even level.

First, the man has been giving public speeches for well over a year, and has “gone off script” any number of times. Remember a bird in Washington landing on his podium?

But secondly, and probably much more importantly…Bernie is going to have to say why he and his supporters should vote FOR Hillary. Just saying voting against Trump isn’t going to cut it. And he has known this since the day he formally endorsed ( and probably long before that).

The fact that he isn’t prepared to make that case today, speaks volumes.

Bernie made this mess…this is a direct result of spending months attacking the entire Democratic party as corrupt and rigged, of yelling that he was going to take the fight all the way to floor. Well, know its on the floor…precisely as he asked for.

So, IMO, coming here and trying to provide cover for the man’s inability to deal with his own mess, is laughably transparent.

Interesting that during his concession speech in 2008, John McCain found the time to tell his supporters to stop booing Barack Obama.

No. Clinton did.

Haha…to be fair, it was probably more along the lines of “just keep giving the speech Bernie…man I wish I had had more time to practice and memorize this one…ah, fuck, now some of Clinton’s people are going to be all pantwet that I didn’t scold the boo-ers…I wonder where I can get a good reuben for lunch after this…”

Oh look…the troll is trolling the Democratic Convention. Who would have fucking guessed?

OH NOES! Not the butthurt!!!

You guys are just too enamored of the self-righteousness you’ve been nursing.

“What??? Bernie didn’t scold a few booing people??? HOW DARE HE??? I guess now it’s time to scold him and everyone else!!! ARGLE BARGLE ANGRY RANT THAT HAS NO CONNECTION TO PRACTICAL REALITY!!!”

Nobody cares anymore. These people are going to boo anyway. He can’t control them. He wound them up, sure, but he can’t unwind them. They’re ideologues on a mission now. If you’d like to blame him for their existence and the fact that they got organized, that’s fine, but at some point we just need to start ignoring them. They are a tiny fraction of his supporters that will make some noise and get a little attention but overall won’t effect much.

“We have shown the entire world that our ideas are not some crazy, wild, utopian fantasies,” he continued. “They are ideas supported by working people from one end of this country to the other.”

That’s one of the biggest problems I have with this. They ARE still fringe players. He STILL hasn’t explained what exactly they’ve accomplished, what’s gonna happen going forward, who they’re working with etc. Look, he lost. His ideas are still not accepted by a majority of Americans. Deal with it. Keep trying with better vehicles. But what he’s offering is just vague platitudes.

Yes, I get that he’s told his followers to vote for Clinton. OK. But he’s responsible for at least some of this craziness.

So it was “public relations”, after all

I got $27 that most of these folks will not be heard from again, except to come on sites like this one and Twitter to complain about how change isn’t happening fast enough. Sanders didn’t create a movement, he created a cult. The majority of his backers have left the cult and are now doing all they can to ensure we don’t end up with a President Trump. The rest will crawl back in their holes after it finally sinks in that they didn’t get their way. It doesn’t matter how much the Democratic party tries to appease the dead enders. Nothing will be good enough. Way past time to move on without them.

I don;t know how Sanders could have been more clear in beseeching his supporters to vote for Clinton. The fact that they responded loudly and negatively just underscores that this isn’t about personality.

They’re saving that for his convention speech.

…and I’m only half way joking.
