Discussion: Sanders Predicts A Contested Convention: 'We Intend To Fight' For Votes

He isn’t reforming anything. He is fleecing gullible rubes $27 a pop. He saw a void that there was no one was using the Pailin/Carson scam on the Left and he is milking the cash cow until the very last day

That’s it, he’s gone full Nader. I was hoping this wouldn’t happen. He and his band of rabid wackadoodles are doing their darndest to ensure a Republican win.

As I said in reply to your prior post, I hope you are right – but I am not so sure even major concessions will in the end make any difference to those who are convinced that she is corrupt beyond redemption. Further, the more she tries to cater to the demands of such people, the more she loses. Certain concessions may become unacceptable to moderate democrats and republicans whom she also needs to win. One thing I just know is a no-go with middle class moderates is Sanders’ promise to raise taxes. All Trump would have to do is control the crazy talk and promise he won’t ever raise their taxes and he’d have a chance to win their votes. HRC must know this – so she can’t promise things that she knows would have to be paid for by raising taxes on the middle class. So – the question is, which group of voters are more numerous and more likely to vote for her? HRC is winning the democratic primary for a reason which has nothing to do with personality. Its the simple fact that the majority of democrats are simply not as far left as Sanders.

How Sanders is “fighting for Votes” by insulting and bad mouthing the voters that he is supposedly fighting for is a mind bender gone wild.

If it were me or most anyone other than Sanders or Trump, we would court the uncommitted and centrists, not try to shame them or guilt them into making a thoughtless vote.

Vote Sanders because mad as hell is a losing effort because it works both ways. Don’t vote for him either because troublemaker and actively benefitting the opposition.
Badmouthing super delegates, AKA delegates that are more dedicated to the Party and are being rewarded for that, but then lay out your whole strategy based on the miracle of all miracles, having those SD’s that you’ve offended switch over to you in a moment of total loss of coherence is a total loss of coherence in and of itself.

Sanders strategy at this time is basically Kasich and Cruz’s strategy, hang around as dead men walking and cling on to the very last shred of hope no matter the damage done in the meantime to nation and self or the frivolousness involved because miracles happen somewhere, sometimes they guess.
Aaannnnnd, they all need the same miracle, which would be yet another miracle.

As is often the case, looking at only the face value of words and/or deeds, can yield very little light, and miss the essential reality of the event.

What often lends more clarity is to divine the motivation behind the event.

In this case when I take the context, in combination with the content, and rather elaborate phraseology, as well as what the latter two reveal about the personality of the poster, I posit the possibility that someone, much in love with his own words, a devotee of a point of view which is quickly losing traction, due to its rapidly diminishing relevance to any current reality, is desperate to savor the sound of a number of phrases he has accumulated over time, some of which he may have tried before without eliciting the effect he hoped for, but many of which he has thus far found no opportunity to use, conflated them, and thrust them into view regardless of their relevance to the topic at hand.

If I’m accurate in my assessment I can experience some empathy for the author since I fancy myself a bit of a wordsmith myself, and hate it when I have a phrase all dressed up with no place to go.

Where I hope that I differ is in no longer pursuing lost causes, let alone Pyrrhic victories.

I like to think that when I find myself pursuing an apparently lost cause, I can shift perspectives and find a more positive direction for my energy.

Good for you, but you’re the minority, this site is Hillary country. Good luck with your reasoned discussion, it ain’t gonna happen on TPM.

And as each state contest passes by, Sanders loses more leverage to exact these concessions from her, and Clinton knows that.

He’s in increasingly less favorable position to make demands.

Time is not on his side.

And I’m not saying bow to them. I’m saying get them to adjust course by subtle means.

Bernie just wants to keep the donations coming. Those huge rallies cost $$.

@pluckyinky said some time ago in that scenario Hillary would have to look for votes elsewhere, which means she has no choice but to move to the right. Which, I am pretty sure, his hardcore supporters would take as yet another piece of evidence that “Hillary is a Republican lite” and scream out as much, but it is clear that some of his supporters will never see her positively no matter what she does – so no real merit to make such impossible concessions (like your example his tax plan).

My sense from recent polls is that a good majority of his supporters are much saner and wiser than their candidate himself.

Sanders is wrong, as usual.

Can I please borrow your alternate future machine to find something practical out?

Au contraire, I’ve seen a number of pro Secretary Clinton posts, which, while critical of some of Senator Sanders’ more egregious behaviors, nevertheless express appreciation for some of his positions (with a few notable exceptions, e.g.: NRA, presidential qualifications, and implied corruption), and express a desire to incorporate them into future policy proposals.

Indeed, Soon-To-Be-President Clinton has clearly echoed the same sentiment, but some people appear to be deaf to what others might regard as stellar success, and insist on projecting their own hostility upon others.
