His statements on Brexit should put to rest any notion that Bernie is a social democrat. The actual social democrats voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU.
But not Bernie. He smells an opportunity for going straight to the Marxist revolution and is just dying to go full on with that.
This is the same sort of nonsense that Sarandon was espousing…make it really bad so the revolution can happen! And Bernie is right there with her.
His ideas are laughably naive, if they didn’t entail massive amounts of human suffering…of which Bernie could care less…if he thinks it advances the Revolution.
Bull shit, Bernie. Your statement, though in a different way, is almost as ignorant as Trump’s.
The vote is about xenophobia and not much of anything else. It was a vote against “those people,” who in parts of Britain (as in parts of the USA) are blamed by some people as the root of all their problems.
+1.
My reaction was the same. The Right wing/Trump faction of the Conservative party pushed this, and rather than seeing the bigger picture (this undermines liberal democracy, aids Putin, and turns England over to right wing loons) and the entirely racist campaign run the the leave side, he puts it into Marxist terms.
I have long wondered if Bernie ever stopped being a Trotskyite, this interview and his ongoing failure to endorse Clinton is lots of evidence he has not lost his Trotskyite view of the world.
And the damned thing is, he who doesn’t understand his signature issue most certainly doesn’t understand any political and economic implications/consequences of Brexit either (no surprise coming from a protectionist, though).
Did anybody read Josh’s Editor’s Blog today?
“I think what this vote is about is an indication that the global economy is not working for everybody.”
Swing…and a miss!
B-b-b-b-b-b-b-but What about the votes of the 48% don’t they count. I heard the votes were suppressed, American independents weren’t allowed to vote. I blame DWS.
The newest one? Yes. Quite an insight.
- Bernie what’s wrong?
- Banker.
“What we need to do is create a situation where there is more international cooperation,” Sanders said. “But at the same time we do not forget about the people left behind.”
The same kind of gibberish that comes out of Rump’s pie hole. Amazing how similar they are.
This wasn’t about the “global economy.” This was a proxy for anti immigration and anti intellectualism.
Seriously.
Since when has the global economy worked for everybody? Change is constant. There are always menial, low skilled jobs needing done with similarly low skilled, poorly educated people to do them. Has there ever been a time in human history when everyone was comfortable? When everyone performed in a rewarding job for a handsome remuneration?
And how about taking some goddamned personal responsibility for your prospects at being hired into a meaningful job? Finish high school. Quit covering every square inch of your body in tattoos. Learn the King’s English, proper grammar. Read. Brush your teeth, get a haircut, shave, tuck in your shirt, wear a belt, shine your shoes. Show up on time, prepared. Quit using drugs and drinking to excess. Quit smoking. Lose fricking 50 pounds so the person interviewing you doesn’t wonder if you’ll make it to the end of the day. Stay out of trouble. Stay out of jail. Do what the boss asks. Do what the police ask. Respect your spouse, don’t hit them. Don’t drink and drive. If your job periodically demands you piss in a cup be fricking prepared to pass the test.
Finding work and keeping it isn’t rocket science. Quit your bitching about life being unfair, the system is rigged, the global economy is stacked against you. Take some responsibility. Geez.
Yes - very good read. Bernie really does not understand the issues, just wants to tear everything down no matter the suffering.
I think there was a feeling among some folks in the UK that the global economy was not working for everyone. But the reality is that there have always been people that have been left behind - globalized economy or not. Globalization and immigration just give the people who are left behind someone else to point their fingers at.
I would like for Bernie or Trump or any Exiter to explain how Brexit works out well for anyone but speculators.
Just to be on the safe side, I’m converting all my cash to sheet glass.
Has it occurred to anyone that although Bern’s been talking Revolution for a year, there has been none, there will be none and if there were ever one he wouldn’t be leading it. However, Josh’s explanation of what it all means should calm the fevered brows and no one but no one should look to trump’s triumphalism as anything more than trump being trump.
I did. It’s what we should all read if we’re thinking someone similar could happen here, have paid attention to trump and are getting nervous. It won’t. This isn’t Animal Farm.
@geofu54 I’ve read through it somewhat quickly, but I do know something about Anders Breivik and his grievances on his country being invaded by people not like himself.
There’s another issue here that REALLY betrays Sanders willful ignorance.
This was also a referendum that was vastly drawn along generational lines. Older folks, desperately wanting to return to what they perceived as the halcyon days, voted to go back to the way things were. In the 18th century.
Young voters voted to REMAIN. Why? Because the success of their futures is largely tied to accepting globalization, working within its parameters and not returning to the 18th century.
Of course, Sanders doesn’t get that. He’s got his one meme and hits it every. single. time.
