A recent survey by the US National Association of Realtors found that Chinese became the biggest foreign investors in US residential real estate, surpassing Canadians. More recently, with the collapse of real estate in China and China’s slowing economy, there is a panic to get in under the US umbrella, where Americans work to keep up the value of your investment. American politicians have seen cities like San Francisco, LA, New York, and most recently Miami, become unaffordable to most residents, while pushing to create global investment havens for tax dodgers.

Perhaps it’s an east-west thing. I found that Dublin, London, Barcelona, Rome, Naples, and Palermo don’t have readily available restrooms (it was also interesting to note that public places that did, such as airports and museums, often didn’t have water fountains like we’re used to here; I was thirsty all the time). It was most noticeable in Italy because it’s fairly dry, and the lack of rain means everywhere smells like piss all the time.
