How about we be outraged because the “medal” stick wasn’t threatening the cops, and the other person wasn’t in imminent fear of his life? How about because the cops acknowledged that it was a “medal” broomstick, not a lead pipe? How about because one guy dropped his stick and the cops fired before the other guy could?
Refusing to drop a weapon is a far cry from not dropping a nonlethal “weapon” quick enough for the lethally armed cops to pull the trigger. These guys were itching for a kill, and are probably disappointed they didn’t get it.
By the way, I hear Wayne calling with your next set of marching orders. Why don’t you run off now?
@nydiva: I’m calling bullshit on your assertion. You’re no more black than I’m a flying fish.
Because he was brandishing it and moving toward the person. Not every use of force is excessive. America has really gone off the deep end if from this distance we simply assume every use of force is excessive. I am not sure I want to live in the America you seem to want to force on me.
Someone please remind me, why do cops carry anything other than a loaded gun?
What happened to tasing or billy clubs.
How about a good old fashioned knock down, noooooo, it has to be shoot to kill.
If this were so when we were growing up, a lot of us would’ve been shot on sight.
I managed a band and we had run ins with the cops almost every weekend, no one ever got shot, no cop ever pulled a gun, not much excessive force and if there was any, it was against the long hairs every time.
Cops have changed, policing has definitely changed and both for the worse. Do they even begin to realize how much more they are despised every time they do this?

Ignoreland" I’m calling bullshit on your assertion I’m not black because of your apparent dumb-ass belief a black grandmother can’t have an opinion on a police shooting that differs from yours. So much for what you really know about me or this police shooting.
FYI, I had a younger brother aged 20 who was shot dead by the police 36 years ago. I am not unfamiliar with the problem of police using excessive force. But this story does not sound excessive force was used. In a highly charged situation that involves a fight, the police have a split second to make a call. Yes, sometimes their reaction is very wrong like in the case of Tamir Rice, etc.
But were these cop itching for a kill as you suggest? I’m not willing to rally against every police shooting as if some of these shootings were unprovoked because I’ve seen my fair share of (some) Black kids doing very bad things. Was excessive force in this case? Well, let’s wait to hear all the details.
Nonsense. In no other civilized country in the world would a scene like this have resulted in someone being shot to death. Perhaps in China or Russia, but even there I don’t think so. And the outcome would definitely have been different in the UK, in France or Germany. You know, in those countries (and in plenty of others) the police has to deal with violent teenagers as well. They overwhelm them, they stop the violence, but somehow they almost never have to use a weapon. At the end of it, everybody is alive and everybody is happy. Only in Murka it is shoot first, ask questions later (if at all). It is sad and disgusting.
Isn’t that supposed to be “force down your throat”? And I’m sure I don’t want to live in the America where thugs in uniform pull and fire their weapons and don’t have to account for it. Next thing you know the body camera records will have accidentally been wiped and the cops will claim he was lunging at them.
"In a statement, the department said two Salt Lake City officers were trying to break up a fight around 8 p.m. WHERE THE TEENAGER and another male were hitting a third male with metal objects.
The officers ordered the males to drop the metal, “stick-like objects,” and one male complied. THE TEENAGER did not drop the stick and instead MOVED toward the victim in a THREATENING manner, Salt Lake City Police Detective Greg Wilking said.
One or both of the police officers then shot the teen."
Nonsense you say? The TEENAGER shot was attacking someone and refused to drop his weapon. The police used justified force. This teenager was NOT a victim of excessive police force. Shades of Michael Brown here. Sheesh.
