The fun part about this is that any additional tax credits or subsidies will do little more than appease a few on the side of “this bill is too mean” while further turning off those on team “this bill isn’t nearly mean enough”. Anything you do to appease one side only serves the purpose of further entrenching the other.

That’s what I was thinking – he helped write the damn bill, and it’s not that long, but now he seems to have no idea what’s in it.

My guess is he wants to get it passed out of the House, so he caves to the far right. And says “Well, we looked at it, but the votes weren’t there because of those evil democrats.”

Easy solution. Stop viewing the Replace bill as a tax cut source for the wealthy and for certain healthcare businesses that were included in the law as a means to offset costs and keep the program budget neutral - a move done to appease the GOP. Without using this law as a tax cut fountain there is plenty of resources for tax credits (er, subsidies.)

  • Results in no tax cuts for the filthy rich.
  • ObamaCare’s structural problems continue (it is actually collapsing in many states, thanks to Republican lawsuits regarding risk corridors payments)
  • It doesnt address health care, only govt funding towards expensive health care.

I’m sorry, but didn’t you write this? What changed that NOW you want to help seniors?

“Humanizing” the bill will be phase four; Dems need to pass all the gut-wrenching stuff first and then Ryan will dole out the puppies, rainbows, and lollipops.

@kendyzdad Turns out grannies fight back when you try to starve them.

I wonder if some of those brave fearless Congress members met with Ryan the same way constituents met with them?

And wrap themselves in warm welcoming comfort of the flag if they’re cold.

Older cohorts? Who talks like that?

Statisticians and actuaries. Ryan’s probably learning about risk pools for the first time ever.

They anticipate their kids will through college and grad school by then.

and that’s one of the things we’re looking at

I’ve heard that too many times in all endeavors. Basically it means we got nothing, we’re winging it, chance encounters with divergent views, reaching out and considering all options.

Ryan is getting ‘lighter’ by the day. And now he’s talking funny. Liked him better when he just lied - and talked ‘choice’. Sorry, gotta say it. Sad.

Golly, Mr. Ryan, the more changes you make to your plan to make it acceptable to the average American, the more your plan looks like Obamacare. Or is that just a coincidence?

Forming a Grand Bargain to kill old people is his Randian dream. He’s not going to miss an opportunity to run the idea of the pole to see how the idea flies. But, perplexingly, it never seems to be very popular with Republican elected officials.

Agreed, but my question is why is insurance for people under 26 seen as being desirable- a key feature of the Republican narrative that yes!, we want you to carry your kids on your policy!, but after 26, when it’s up to the offspring to purchase a policy, then it’s viewed as an unwanted burden for any young adult to be strapped with.

The thinking is bizarre, I agree. But I think the original justification was that supposedly they’re working at 26 and can afford their own insurance. Not to mention Mom and Pop won’t be paying 36,000 to 48,000 a year tuition in addition, in case they have to help.
