The irony (or whatever you want to call it) is that the FISA court system does suck. It is way too much like a rubber stamp. People who are not partisan asswipes have been complaining about this for 10+ years and proposing remedies, and republicans have been calling them traitors for much of that time.

I agree (said as much upthread).
The conventional wisdom used to be that they were only protecting the moron because they wanted to keep a rubber stamp president til they passed their beloved tax cuts, only then would they abandon him as they were seeing their 2018 prospects deteriorating.
None of Ryan’s recent words and behaviors is explainable by that old wisdom.
What best explains the recent Ryan, in my mind anyway, is (1) there is something HE (and by extension the GOP leadership) needs to cover up about this Russia matter, and (2) he KNOWS he will get Kremlin’s help in the 2018 midterm.
