Discussion: Ryan: Congress Focusing On 'Mental Illness Reform' To Stop Mass Shootings

Ryan is playing politics. He is saying something that he knows is not true. He is lying. The NRA have Ryan and the GOP by the balls. A big chunk of the campaign money that go to republicans come from the NRA. The only way the Wealthy and Corporate serving GOP party can get votes is to tell the rural Americans that they can keep their guns and that they are on their side and the mean old liberals (who have plenty of guns themselves and like going hunting etc) want to take their guns away.

Ryan: Congress Focusing On ā€˜Mental Illness Reformā€™ To Stop Mass Shootings

Oh for fuckā€™s sake! What a sad sack of shit!

Mental illness reform by taking away health insurance from people struggling with mental illness?

Did I hear it right?

I actually think some GOP are in fact psychopaths. They lack empathy and hold other human beings in distain ā€“ but they are careful to hide their sickness behind ideology and/or religion. They mouth the words of morality, but they are totally hollow. They show us everyday who they are.

And thatā€™s the point. He wouldnā€™t have been caught in the mental health dragnet. In fact I am sure that many fine, upstanding 'Murcans who youā€™d think should be banned who would get exempted/ go around so they can hunt or whatever. This proposal would have done nothing to prevent the carnage in Las Vegas.

We WANT gun control measures taken, we want laws manning certain types of guns and apparatus that can be added to guns to change them into assault weapons,
AND
also the measures Paul is talking about. This is an all out, all point attempt to attack this problem/

AND YA BETTER NOT TRY TO SNEAK THE LEGALIZATION OF SILENCERS THREW.

There is no doubt in MY mind if ANY person in congress decides to turn ITā€™S head from more laws against gun violence YOUR DAYS in Congress are numbered. You will be fired and if you dare stay and are reelected we will DOG YOU out of offices.

Your right not to be terrorized by mass shootings donates how much to campaigns each year?

Hereā€™s what I donā€™t understand. Pick any random Congressfucker. If theyā€™re at the high end they got about $10k from the NRA.

10k*535 is, what, $5.35M?

This canā€™t be countered? The people of this nation who donā€™t want to die in a hail of bullets canā€™t make it $15M and triple what the NRA is dishing out?

Mental Illness Reform??? SERIOUSLY??? Is that the best he can do? Heā€™s trying to spin the belief that Congress can reform mental illness? Into what? Can he cure mental illness? Every last variation of every form of mental illness? They flatly refuse any discussion to address climate change by proudly proclaiming their own ignorance on everything science, then this??? Spinning the need for gun control policy into an isolated ruse against mental illness is itself a form of mental illness!!! He needs to acknowledge that he is deranged! And seek help!!! For the good of our country!!! NOW!!!

Mental illness reform. Every day i read the news and firmly believe that there is no way that the Republican leadership can possibly take one step further toward insanity. And yet, here we are.

Itā€™s all fine and good to review the treatment of mental illness. But I always go back to Molly Ivins, who famously declared that no matter who has murderous intent, in a fight with KNIVES, no one gets killed without a good footrace first. You canā€™t say the same for all that high-powered, maximum-carnage weaponry.

ā€œProtecting peopleā€™s rights was very important,

So Ryan is arguing that protecting the 2nd Amendment right of a mentally ill person to bear arms overrides the general publicā€™s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yup, "thatā€™s what that issue was all about.ā€ Well, that and campaign donations.

Iā€™m not sure its as simple as bribing them with donations, but the threat of millions of dollars of NRA money being pumped into races against them. Its the NRA that needs to be murdered.

The reason why I said that it risks being argumentative, is that depending on the next set of questions that resulted from that Ryan snarky answer, I wouldnā€™t be surprised if a) Ryan caught a figurative smackdown for going there, b) Ryan (or Scalise) going into ā€˜Cartman modeā€™ or c) the conservative media using any possible fubar, as a diversion about the American press corpsā€™s morality.

Now one shouldnā€™t be afraid of c (or maybe even b), but seeing how reporters are just now getting this memo

, then it shouldnā€™t surprise me that going after Ryan or McConnell will take awhile.

They will focus like a dim bulb on Mars.

This will be a big pile of nothing.

Yes you did. We need to break that crippling dependence of the mentally ill on government-funded services. Helping people in distress IS the problem. We need to stop it at once.

Love,
The GOP

And weā€™ll do that by taking away their healthcare so they canā€™t pay for services. But weā€™ll give them guns. Cause that works out.

Well, we now have several thousand recruits to the cause - assuming each of those 58(+, I assume) people had friends and family.

Eventually one of them will load a truck with fertilizer and erase NRA HQ.

Why not a bill that shorten news cycles and limits grief? What a numb nuts.

I actually wonder about this. I mean, many of those people in attendance, certainly country music fans, tend to be second amendment enthusiasts. A couple of the country music stars have come out and said, we were and we were wrong. This is insane. I wonder if this will cause there to be more pressure. Iā€™m not holding out hope, but I do wonder.
