Discussion: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Calls NFL Anthem Protests ‘Dumb And Disrespectful’ (VIDEO)

Trump: Her mind is shot.

She dislikes it personally but correctly recognizes that it’s within everyone’s right to do it. I suppose the charitable reaction is that’s a reasonable position for someone to take and to leave it at that.

It’s hard to figure why she felt the need to expound on her personal views, though, especially when she punted on the Muslim ban later in the interview, citing the fact that may end up being a case she hears. I’m sure plenty of Republican legislators would love to pass a law forbidding kneeling during the anthem, which could also reach her desk.

Agreed. It’s classy and very strong.

When I was a child they said the same thing about peaceful demonstrations led by some guy from Georgia. To show how “dumb and disrespectful” they were being they would be beaten, have police dogs sicced on them, and be washed down the streets with high-pressure fire hoses. In fact, some considered their actions so “dumb and disrespectful” that they thought they should be shot.

These “dumb and disrespectful” people should simply buck up and do the right thing.

After all, Xmas is right around the corner. Just sayin’.

Fuck you too, brainless wonder, for not knowing how important Ruth Bader Ginsburg is in her place at SCOTUS. She stands between right wing domination and our civil liberties.

@polisong @mcnett Yes she was friends with Scalia because they had some things in common including their love of opera, the finely crafted sentence, but she did not agree with his thinking. She began her career with ACLU if you didn’t know and her heart remains in civil rights advocacy.

When I was in Thailand I was confused the first time I witnessed their national anthem being played over cheap tannoy speakers at a train station for no apparent reason. Our guide explained it was a law that the populace had to stand up to show respect for the nation when their anthem was played daily. It reminded me of Vietnam broadcasting communist party messages daily in a similar fashion.

She will retire, but good luck having Hillary get someone better–or even be able to restock the bench. Try to maintain a little perspective and look at her lifetime of service and legal opinions before raking her over the coals.

I think you could have let it slide.

And Cuba. Too many memories of that.

In other words: be quiet.

When you can point out how white people have been marginalized and disenfranchised, and lectured to by black folk about the “proper” way to protest, then you’d have a point.

But thanks for the lecture. A Columbus Day treat.

Really. With all she has done and supported in her lifetime, she says something you don’t agree with and this is how you choose to respond? Silly.

I’m very surprised at this. Is she starting to come a little unhinged? I mean, she has been an incredibly important justice but she is so wrong on this. I don’t have much respect for authoritarians who demand lip service and conformance with silly obligations they’ve constructed like the pledge, the anthem, prayer in govt meetings, etc. This doesn’t look good on her either.

I once worked in a lab with a Japanese MD/PhD. He took his family to a baseball game. He was flabbergasted that we all stood and sang the national anthem. I had never even thought about it. I asked him what was so odd about it? Do they do it in Japan?

He said, “Yes, but, Americans never do anything cooperatively. You can barely drive on the roads together (this was in Boston). But at a ball game, you all stand and sing together. It’s the only thing you do together voluntarily.”

I’ve never been to Cuba unfortunately. I had some British friends go there for holiday but it was impossible for me to go along with an American passport.

No wonder she and Scalia were friends.

However unlikely it seemed, “Tip” O’Neill and Ronald Reagan were the best of friends. Agreeing with someone has never been a prerequisite of working together, no matter how disparate the politics.

And you’re judging what someone says because it diverges from your support of Ginsburg. Why is it that members of the majority always dictate how the rest of us should respond, behave, or react? The First Amendment applies to you but not to anyone who disagrees with you? Silly.

Was born there and lived there for a 10 years–50s and 60s Cuba. Oh yes, I’m a refuge so am I allowed to say, “Fuck you Trump?” Why yes, I think I am. I’ll also say fuck you Castro on the occasion.
