I think this is more dangerous – it’s Russia trying to get its money worth with Trump by piggybacking his attacks on USIC findings and putting him in a position that is awkward to rebut.
The playbook is to push the same kind of thing over and over so as to “move the goalposts.” Even if there’s a refute from Hailey this time around, there’s no reason for Russia not to hit this kind of thing repetitively. (I believe they have re: poisonings on NATO soil.) Eventually, this admin won’t refute or, potentially, could even publicly agree, which would constitute a new level of success in Russian efforts to use its US (Trump)/ western European white nationalist politicians to undermine NATO.
I find the timing interesting/ scary. It could be now because of the heightened local division over family separation. There’s something in this very chilling review that Melania’s trolling wardrobe yesterday reminded me of:
