Look. I don’t know if you noticed, but these people are Europeans. They’re different from us. I thought that the garb the project scientists were wearing was, generally speaking, colorful. Did you notice the Ascot Dude? Yeah, that’s right, an ascot. Or maybe it was just a neck scarf. Then, the interviewer lady yesterday was poured into her pants. I thought his shirt and her pants went together nicely. Kind of suggested that maybe around the ESA they’re not so uptight as we are, and less inclined to take offense.

Put yourself in the place of a woman who, say, depends on a guy like that for her job evaluation. Feel secure? I wouldn’t. Wearing a shirt like that in the workplace shows incredible bad taste, and an insensitivity to his coworkers and to those who have to look at it, including those who just want to hear about the COMET. But it’s just stupid and inappropriate, not misogynist.

As an academic scientist (tenured, well-funded Professor at top-10 US med school), I’ll just say you haven’t the foggiest idea of what you’re talking about. The shirt was wildly inappropriate, offensive, and unprofessional.

As a non-scientist, non-academic, non-american, I’ll just say that your opinions of what is or is not “appropriate” is not natural law. I have a dream that my children will be judged not by the pattern of their shirts but by the content of their character, and in that dream there is a lot less bullshit than in this “article”.
