Discussion: Ron Johnson Says He'll Vote To Block Obamacare Repeal Bill This Week

Dems should move to the left and propose single payer or at the very least public option. “Because we tried really hard to work with Republicans and keep private insurance the main vehicle for guaranteeing universal access but it didn’t work.” This is what is going to happen. Not that they will get there soon or even at all in whatever form they propose but to some extent one of the big problems here is that hospitals and insurers are sitting on their hands and trying not to make anyone mad, but in doing that, they are also selling out their customers. They needed to stand up for the ACA and they didn’t and they shouldn’t get rewarded for their failure.

I am sure Johnson can be bribed. Not sure that works for Collins or Heller or Paul. Not holding my breath, however. If these fuckers actually pass something that results in 15 million (or even half that many) losing health insurance, there is simply no way for anyone to pretend that they work for donors and not constituents.

We should remember that Obama won in 2008 campaigning for the public option, but abandoned it after he was elected. So, yes, the public option polls well, and Obama already showed it can be a winning campaign position.

This week, Johnson’s a solid “no.” But if the vote is pushed back to next Monday…

Great recommendation. I only hope that the party is listening to these kinds of ideas.

Unfortunately, Sen. Warren’s call for moving immediately to single payer strikes me as “jumping the shark” at this point, but that doesn’t mean that democrats shouldn’t try to work elements of single payer into the current ACA scheme.

This ignoramus keeps showing up on the TV screen protesting that he didn’t have time to read the bill yet but how absurd is that when he was on the very ultra top secret committee of 13 white men who supposedly built the evil bill. Doesn’t he see that he is revealing to the world that indeed the gang of 13 had no part in writing this odious bill but that it was put together by lobbyists and high dollar aides instead? Showing his ignorance only spotlights that this bill goes beyond the more normal ALEC bill writing for the legislature into territory previously unacknowledged. My god if a senator who was behind those carefully locked and bolted secret chamber doors doesn’t know what is in the bill then what went on for the past two months in there? Apparently he wasn’t part of any deliberations or he would know more than he says he does now.
