The question is: will the Trump delegates be able to hold on to the party after he goes down in flames? Let’s see; they have essentially no organization, are probably at least a bit stupider than Donald, and their hive-mind will certainly evaporate once the crude AI that is Donald Trump departs from the scene.
I don’t think Cruz is worried by their enmity. In 2018 he’ll campaign for 275 different GOP candidates, and by 2020 most Republicans will remember this speech as a Churchillian moment.
As a Democrat, I plan to worry about him more in 2020 than I did this year.

that makes Preibus look dumb though. The rule was that if no one endorsed Trump, they couldn’t be on that stage. Almost two weeks after the Times article, here’s Ted Cruz, a guy who’s wife was body shamed and who’s father was called an assassin by the Trump campaign, telling reporters that Trump invited him to speak on that stage.
Sanders endorsed Clinton.
Getting a Cruz endorsement for Trump was akin to getting more than one favorable prediction from the magic 8 ball.
