Discussion: RNC Chair Defends Trump: 'I Ask People Who They Vote For Sometimes'

Yeah, sure, I might ask friends or colleagues too (although most of the time I already know or have a good idea).

I would never think of asking someone who was in any way subordinate to me, in case they felt under pressure or intimidated.

That’s the difference here.

He’s certainly not going around to every single FBI agent and saying, ā€˜Did you vote for me?’
Only because he didn’t have time
A loyalty oath would be acceptable though

"…this is a President who’s just getting to know people and that’s part of those conversations.ā€

Seems legit. Maybe Trump asks female WH staff "Commando, or briefs?". You know, just in an effort to get to know them.

Oh FFS In this political climate you cant even ask that in casual conversation lest fist fights break out.
In my group of acquaintances it is just not discussed any more unless it is with friends who are Dems

You have friends that are not Dems?!

Okay, sure, of course you do, YOU’RE THE HEAD OF A POLITICAL PARTY, NOT THE FUCKING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Can’t wait to hear how it’s okay POTUS rubs his asshole on the carpet because, hey, hasn’t your dog ever had worms?

I don’t ask my own father who he voted for. I’ll talk all manner of important public policy, from which it is astoundingly obvious where he stands on every issue under the sun, but I will never, ever ask which chad he left hanging.

The secret ballot is serious, serious business. People died for that shit.

The GOP can throw out what ever spin they want b/c it’s not going to stop mueller or the any of the FBI people that comey shared his memos and notes from his discussions with trump from testifying.

I think they know that they have isnt circumstantial evidence against the FBI

Isn’t it kind of her job to ask people about how they vote?

The only reason Trump isn’t doing this is because it’s logistically impossible. LOL if McDaniel thinks Trump wouldn’t be firing whole legions of government or personal employees if he knew they didn’t vote for him and he could get away with it.

Stupid must be catching.

These pictures are existentially infuriating. I’m serious - people bled and died so that their brothers and sisters could vote in an absolute vacuum. I don’t think anything can take me zero-to-sixty angry out of the blue faster than somebody asking me how I voted.

I want to adblock the URLs so I never see these images again (unfortunately Adblock has not yet developed politician-blocking functionality).

Yes I do
They predate Donnie and there were always mild political differences
We do kid them from time to time but we defer any political conversations as they are Faux News watchers and suffering from Faux derangement syndrome
Our cleaning lady is a staunch Donnie supporter for that reason even though it has cost her in health care premiums
She has been taught by Faux
It’s Obama’s Fault!

When I told my father that I didn’t vote for Jimmy Carter in 1976, he was shocked. I’m not sure he ever got over it. (I wrote in Fred Harris’ name. You young folks can look him up.) By the way, one of the shames of our family is that my Dad voted for Hoover in 1932. but he never made that kind of mistake again.

And, yes, I certainly DID vote for Carter in 1980.

Rona Romney McDaniel will toss family loyalty if pressured to. She’s obviously a little too pliant, let’s say, to defend the norms that helped legitimate this democracy for two centuries. One more betrayer for the list.

As Chair-Creature of the RNC, Ronna Romney has every reason to ask potential hires about their political affiliations, activities, and beliefs.

Outside that sort of context, it’s strictly a between-friends conversation. A supervisor should never ask a subordinate about that and a smart subordinate will adopt a don’t tell policy. We were warned off of that sort of discussion in academic hiring – ā€œDon’t go there, even if the candidate raises itā€ is what we were told.

Ostracism is a lost art, highly under utilized. Republicans are barred from entry into my home, regardless their relationship to me or anyone six degrees of separation from me. Cancer needs excised, not accepted. Left untreated it kills. Miss Kitty has a good friend with a nitwit husband that supports Trump. She visits us solo or not at all. And that’s at Miss Kitty’s instigation.
