Discussion: Rights Group: Israeli Lethal Force Against Protesters May Be War Crime

Apartheid State. No wonder Trump loves them so much.

Being a war criminal isn’t really about whether you agree to accept the jurisdiction of the ICC.

Remind me, because my memory may be fading, but when did South Africa:

  • allow all of its black citizens to vote:
  • have the third largest party in its parliament represent black citizens in rough proportion to their percentage of the total population;
  • have a black Supreme Court justice, who oversaw a disputed national election;
  • allow black citizens to become doctors and lawyers and to practice in its most prestigious hospitals and law firms and clerk in its courts;
  • have a Supreme Court that routinely ruled against the military and defense establishment in favor of black citizens and even in favor of black people who lived outside its borders albeit in territory administered by the country;
  • have a free press that routinely criticized the government for its policies towards its black citizens?

I do not recall any of that being true of apartheid South Africa. But replace the world “black” with “Arab” and every one of those things is true about Israel. So is Israel wrong in much of its policies toward the territories? Yes. So is the Palestinian Authority on its side. Does that make Israel an apartheid state? Not even close.

These are not “protestors”, they are people trying to cross the border for the express purpose of “ripping out the hearts of Jews” to quote a relatively benign broadcast from Hamas. The farming community of Nahal Oz is less than 1 km from the border - inside the Green Line, btw. The town of Sderot is 3 km from the border, also inside the Green Line. What does anyone think these “protestors” intend to do once they reach these locations? Have tea with the locals? Maybe sit down on a highway and sing protest songs?

Wow, they’re really going out on a limb on this one!
