In fairness, this may have been the only mutually agreeable timeslot for Russia to brief the Senator-elect on the specifics of his personal Kompromat file.

A hypocritical, lying Republican? Well, I neverā€¦

I seriously hate the fact that everyone has to look at Voldemort in the Senate for the next 6 years with no Beto to counter it. Hopefully everyone who lost the right to vote can be promptly reinstated to the voting rolls in Florida and any attempts DeSantis makes to prevent it are thwarted.

If Scott had taken his new office Thursday, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera would have been sworn in as governor for the last five days of Scottā€™s term. Scottā€™s decision means Lopez-Cantera will be a less notable figure in Florida history books

I assume the reason for the delay is that Scott was afraid Lopez-Cantera might somehow loosen the GOPā€™s tenuous and illegitimate death-grip on power.

The day will come when the people of Florida will wish Senator Scott spent even less time on Senatorial matters.

Prior to the last election, convicted felons who wanted to regain the right to vote had to plead their case before a panel of people that included the governor. I recently heard recordings of several of these hearings on a podcast (canā€™t remember which one, unfortunately) - but if you want to know who Rick Scott is, you could do worse than listen to him deny case after case of voting rights for people who have paid their debt to society and have changed their lives for the better only to be told that they still canā€™t do that most basic of American activities and vote.

Here is some info from a Florida newspaper

some highlights

During his nearly eight years as governor, Scott restored the voting rights of twice as many whites as blacks and three times as many white men as black men.

Scott restored rights to a higher percentage of Republicans and a lower percentage of Democrats than any of his predecessors since 1971.

Blacks accounted for 27 percent of those who had their voting rights restored despite the fact that 43 percent of those released from state prisons over the past two decades were black.

Black men accounted for 16 percent of voting restorations even though 38 percent of released prisoners were black men.

Blacks accounted for a lower percentage of restorations under Scott than under any of his predecessors, Republican or Democrat, going back at least half a century.

Iā€™m underwhelmed.

Meanwhile, red tide is back. And I actually watched a water bird dying of red tide poisoning while at the beach last week. I wouldnā€™t wish that kind of death on anyone, not even Sen. Skeletor.

So Scott=evil, McConnell=evil, Cotton=evil, and Iā€™m not sure what Cruz has been up to, heā€™s been quiet, too quiet but Cruz=evil. So each one is their own special kind of evil, what will happen when theyā€™re all in the same chamber?

General concern -

ā€œbut heā€™s also not getting paid ā€” Scott doesnā€™t accept a salary.ā€

this is an insidious practice / promise that is held up as a badge of honor by wealthy office-holders and candidates ā€¦
and it should be vilified more than praised - it is a sham - it is a gaudy pretentious flaunting of personal wealth that is intended to somehow influence opinions and voter choice - - Frankly when someone is performing a full time job - for free - the old adage of ā€œyou get what you pay forā€ applies ā€¦ and it begs the question ā€œwhatā€™s in this for you?ā€

It is also never a good practice to financially operate an organization with a highly important senior officer - in a position that would normally command substantial compensation - with that official not accepting compensation - it creates false financial picture and if it is a highly significant savings, it unduly influences decisions.

Officials should be required to accept the positionā€™s compensation - or donā€™t take the jobā€¦ if you want to make donations - fine - and if you want to do it anonymously - good - if you want to publicize it OK - and people can form opinions upon what & how you choose to donate.

I still canā€™t accept that DeSantis won.

I just try not to think about it. For the next four years.

I think itā€™s pretty well established that Rick Scott does not like to testify under oath, so I think we see the issue for the delay here.

As a Floridian I despise Scott as much as I despise Trump. DeSantis is no improvement, nor is Yoho. The only thing these men prove is that past corruption pays off in Florida elections. Florida is its own swamp.

Nice. You donā€™t accept a salary because you have ALREADY ā€˜griftedā€™ the people and since you donā€™t you donā€™t have to ā€˜shareā€™ what you are doing on their behalf. Got it.

Rick - Richard - Scott emphatically should have served time - and this is not some ā€œlock him upā€ rant - this is based upon a multitude of illegal actions / federal fraud related to his tenure at Columbia/HCA - prosecutorial choices were made that were profoundly inexplicable - Scott should have done significant time and should have have the title of ā€˜convicted felonā€™ indelibly tattooed across his gleaming forehead.

He may have head a ā€œmob of ANGRY DEMOCRATSā€ had taken over congress, and, not knowing the difference between House and Senate, didnā€™t want to risk being scalped.

What has Cruz been up to? I thought I saw a recent pic of Cruz with a beard. That can mean a lot of different things to different people. To me, it just makes he is trying to hide his dick face when in fact it makes his evil mug so much more conspicuous!
