Yeah I did too.
I will never forget the British man in one of the books I read about the raj saying “Nonsense, whenever it’s particularly hot I just put a bit of butter on the top of my head. I’ve never had heatstroke.”

However, it is fully in the spirit of Dr. King as she was not judged on the color of her skin but the content of her character.

There are people who sincerely believe that LGBT behavior is “clearly immoral.” Should those people be allowed to deny service to LGBT people?
I don’t think so.
I agree that health and safety issues are legitimate reasons to deny service.
Asking if “the gay wait staff at the Red Hen should have been obliged to serve Madame Sarah” is the same as asking if a religious pharmacist should be obliged to sell brith control or if a religious baker should be obliged bake a cake for a gay couple.
In my opinion, the answer is “yes” in all cases.
Discrimination for thee but not for me is not a tenable position. Haass is right.
Yes you would think so.
Well, we have found one thing that we agree on completely. I have always loved Jerry Brown.
Now if only Feinstein could recognize the limitations of being over 80.
Clever argument.
Don’t need to argue with a troll. You’re a troll.
The Civil Rights Act was placed to protect people from being harmed by government due to immutable characteristics. Being a lying GOP’er is a choice and the GOP has not been silent on how they feel about those that make choices they would not. They often use “choice” in order to go after those that had no choice at all. I wonder if Mr. Haass was upset about those “if you voted for Obama…stay out” signs wingnuts put on their restaurant doors. Or the MD’s that would not see an Obama voter. I doubt it. This is just an elegant form of wingnuttery. Not the usual misspelled signs or fat slob carrying a Trump sign. But wingnuttry it is.
And what are those limitations? I presume you are over 80 and can speak from experience…not age related bigotry?
Shorter Haas: What she did was perfectly legal! Damn! Whatever happened to IOKIYR?
Know what actually violates the spirit of the Civil Rights Act? Tearing migrant childern from their parents and putting them in cages, detaining families indefinitely, and not giving due process.
How about they go first?
I think you need a rest. What went on in the Red Hen was a rejection of a choice not an immutable characteristic like race or sexual preference. The Civil Rights Act protects folks from discrimination based on those immutable traits. Not political choices, particularly vile ones that require a professional liar to keep them alive, nor does its sprint. The CRA and it’s spirit have no role in this matter.
Seems we’re starting another wave of High Broderism…
Oh for those days of civility when protesters were beaten up at political rallies, racists marched with tiki torches and plowed into a crowd of pedestrians…
Funny. I would not have thought that being against discrimination against people for their beliefs would be considered “trolling” here.
Ask Jerry Brown. Or Google it.
Not tired. The Civil Rights Act does not protect LGBTQ either, so you down with discriminating against them? I doubt it.
What part of what Haass said do you disagree with?
“One of the first landmark pieces of civil rights legislation was the public accommodations, 1964,” Haass said. “And we fought for the right of Americans to be served, whether it was restaurants or hotels and not to be denied on the basis of religion, national origin, a whole list of things.”
“Now politics, ironically enough, was not one of them,” he said. “But what happened the other day violates the spirit of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”
And, by the way, many of the bigots who discriminate against LGBTQ sincerely believe that being LGBTQ is a choice. So there’s that to deal with.
And lets be clear on what that choice was as well, it was a choice to enable and excuse actions that could very easily be argued to be crimes against humanity.
And now a different Red Hen Restaurant in DC that’s unaffiliated with the one in VA is getting threats of violence! Wonder if this is the dirty one Donald was thinking about?
I read last night on Twitter that he got that pic from Richard Spencer’s pleasant little Nazi website.
Figures.
i’m on my way to eat at a better restaurant (Wendys), but here’s a reminder of a similar incident.
but hey, ‘both sides’
