Discussion: Republicans Ratchet Up Defiance With Talk Of A Vote Blocking Trump’s Tariffs

McTurtle will just refuse to take up any legislative action.

His wife is perfectly happy with Mexico being put on the same level tariff-wise as China, fits her business interests.

If he even goes to the trouble of faking some statistics, usually just claiming he never said what he did is sufficient, coupled with cries of “fake news!” when they show the videos of him saying it.

That’s correct. This little game has been choreographed in advance by McConnell and the Senate GOP rank and file. They get to make their little protests and threats of action for the benefit of their corporate donors, and McConnell pulls the plug. That saves them from the terrifying prospect on actually having to go on record opposing Trump, which would piss off their lunatic voting base. The Washington Post and everyone else “breaking” this alleged bombshell has been punked.

Finally, Democrats are starting to put GOP swamp creatures between Trump and their constituents. They will have to decide, who is more important to them. If they side with Trump plenty of negative campaign ads will be coming their way. If they side with their constituents instead, Trump can be easily goaded into attacking them.

They will do nothing.

Yep. In the end they won’t do shit. They’re scared of their own shadows and of their Dear Leader. Before tRump took over their biggest fear was the Chamber of Commerce. Oh, how times have changed.

Shadow President David H Koch has spoken, no doubt.

“…Republicans are discussing holding a vote to block the tariffs…” That’ll be the day.

Dems need to move on this in the House–put up a bill and force Republicans to vote for or against it.

Game on?

Trump says tariffs on Mexican imports to take effect next week, warns Republicans would be ‘foolish’ to try to stop him.

Speak loudly and have nothing to back you up. This is another of his ‘brilliant’ moves as a master of business negotiations. Meanwhile, the economy will suffer - particularly in the border states. Here in California, which he hates except for collecting money, there is concern about the effect.

It’s okay for a woman to take her hat off as long she swaps it for a tiara.

Not sure if you meant it as snark, (assume so) but Camilla had taken her hat off, but had NOT swapped for a tiara…

That should have been a clue, for anyone who was the least bit tuned in. Obliviousness is clearly a Trumpian trait.

(Oops, just noticed your wink…dang I’m slow today. But it still baffles me that nobody in Crime Family Trump is paying attention or the least bit sensitive.)

His wife may be happy, but I betcha the people building cars in Kentucky aren’t. Pretty sure he knows which side his bread is buttered on.

I’m fascinated with Brits’ hats particularly fascinators, don’t have a clue what the protocol is, but they’re daring women to sally forth with that stuff on their head.

They’re always fascinating

I’ll believe it when I see it.
