Discussion: Republican Sens. Want Info From DHS After It Requested Twitter User's Info

CBP must ensure that any properly authorized investigation does not disregard the rights to free speech enshrined in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Greater clarification as to how DHS and CBP approach such investigations will help the public understand your Departmentā€™s level of commitment to those fundamental principles. We look forward to your prompt reply.

Republican senators sent this?

OTOH, weā€™ve got Gorsuch, soā€¦

Two Joes and a Heidi voted with the Rs. Their stupid asses will probably stay in their seats forever.

Iā€™m just surprised that republicans think the Constitution is more than a piece of paper (or several piecesā€¦).

I get the feeling trump is no fan of freedom of speech and thought.

Sean Hannity is super pissed offā€¦that he canā€™t blame Obama or Susan Rice.

Isnā€™t the Constitution that blah-blah-blah stuff that comes before and after the Second Amendment?

Iā€™m pleased at the outcome, and also that a few Republicans might have rediscovered the shreds of a few of their principles, but I wish that Twitter would put even a fraction of the effort that they put toward protecting free speech towards protecting their [women, poc,Jewish,Muslim, LBGTI+] users from harassment.

Did Senators Gardner and Lee vote to allow ISPs to sell your personal internet activity? Itā€™s OK for corporations to make money off citizenā€™s private data, but itā€™s not OK for the government to get info that isnā€™t entirely dissimilar? NOT THAT I AGREE WITH EITHER PART OF THAT, but just amazed at the hypocrisyā€¦or maybe not amazed at all. Sigh

Twitter shouldnā€™t have dropped the suit until after discovery.

As a matter of fact they did.

He sure is a big fan of his own freedom to say or do whatever he likes, other people not so much.

Especially if that someone is critical of him. Criticism is not something trump deals with well at all as we all know.

Trump: Susan Rice had made this request. She should be investigated.

I wish twitter would drop Trumpā€™s account.

So why didnā€™t CBP simply purchase the info? Then there is no need for all these pesky lawsuits.

I know, not yet. But in the not so distant future it wonā€™t be hard for them to ask Comcast (or any other ISP) if they have any users that log in to Twitter with a given username and then purchase that data. If the budget canā€™t be set aside for that Iā€™m sure any one of the dark money superPACs will be more than willing to buy it and then ā€˜leakā€™ the results.

This is the same repubs. who agreed to let our info. to be sold to anyone or govā€™t
Before anybody take these jackals serious look at what they support or how they voted.

What I donā€™t quite savvy is why DHS or CBP or ICE or whatever we want to call them, is doing trying to ā€œinvestigateā€ this stuff at all. What does that have to do with the freaking Border, or Airports? The FBI is for investigating stuff, DHS should stick to searching body cavities of 8 year olds and grandmaā€™s and what not and looking for illegals trying to cross the border.

Or are they turning literally into the Gestapo before our eyes? I mean, itā€™s noxious enough that the thing is called ā€œHomeland Securityā€ to begin with, and that they seem to be roaming the streets all over this country looking for immigrant families to terrorize, but now it seems like someone has given them powers that they have no business having. Iā€™d like to see more Congressional action looking into their activities as well, and Iā€™d really like to see the fascists that are working there fired or jailed or expelled, as the case may be.
