I took the above picture of the crowd - in the heat of the moment I probably didn’t quite estimate the size properly. I’d say on reflection it was more like 1.5 million. 
Actually maybe 5-6 hundred. Anyway, after I shot that I joined the crowd. The modal person there was fiftyish and female. There were children on shoulders, some elderly folks commenting that the last time they’d done this was over Watergate and Vietnam, and a whole lot of gratified surprise that a place like Roseville would turn out a crowd like this. They were there to air their grievances, and in the absence of a Congressman outside they aired them to one another - it was positive, morale-boosting, and some of the best political conversation I’ve heard in some time.
There were a couple people sharing a bullhorn that didn’t really seem to work well. A couple times there were some crowd chants (e.g. “This is what democracy looks like”) but there was literally no one screaming or looking like they had even the possibility of doing anything violent. There was about as much danger as for a crowd waiting for a store with a big sale to open its doors.
That said, clearly the crowd wanted to civilly, but firmly, confront Congressman McClintock (and there’s one person being, well, rude in the video as he’s escorted off) and police can’t take chances with a Congressman. I think the reason he came out with a police escort is that there were also demonstrators waiting by the back of the theater, so they didn’t have any way to sneak him out away from any crowd.
If these Putzy GOP members of Congress keep it up, they will all soon be sleeping in their offices and eating in the cafeteria.
I think Trump can find some Russian escorts to help relieve their sexual tension. There are not enough female GOP members to worry about their ‘needs’.
