Discussion: Reports: Trump Met With Possible Flake Challengers While In Phoenix

When I first glanced at the headline, I thought it read “Trump Meets With Possible Fake Challengers,” and it seemed perfectly logical.

Dear potential Flake challengers,

Some day you will have bus tire tracks on your back, too.

Just sayin’.

Not just Flake challengers. EVERY GOP member of Congress.

I stick by my earlier predictions. In 2019, there will be enough GOP Senators getting on board with impeachment, that he will be impeached. These high profile attacks on Heller, Flake, McConnell and apparently also angry phone calls to Corker and Tillis are making it quite clear to them, that Trump in the WH is a massive liability.

Are the institutional Rs doing a Stockholm thing with the Emperor-in-his-own-mind? Surely they must realize that his main current goal is to crush them.

Or are they, like the rest of us, waiting for Mueller and a clean, rapid ejection?

I suspect there will be many more Republicans he casts as disloyal enemies who he’ll field primary opponents against. 2018 could look much like a couple of 2010 Senate races in which Republicans fielded the worst possible candidate and lost two very winnable races because of it. My hope is that we see this all over the country where races once thought to be lost causes suddenly look completely viable.

Probing the memory banks here. When was the last time a sitting President actively opposed an incumbent Senator of his party, to the degree he recruited and encouraged primary challengers and made it publicly known he wanted that seated Senator defeated?

“Clapper got caught lying to congress,” “Too bad Democrats can’t change tone” (??), “Fake news”.

Seems normal to me.

I bet if you played the tape of a rally from 2 years ago, reporters would say, “Wow, he was REALLY crazy! Did that just happen in the last month? I missed it”.
Nothing changes, as they say in French.

Amazing. Just amazing. I’ve rarely seen this level of self-sabotage going down in real time in real life. Flake was on board the Rump train as much as he could and still hold his seat. But that’s not good enough for Rump when he perceives disloyalty. Rump doesn’t care about politics, just revenge. If Flake loses the seat to Synema well, so what. Not Rump’s problem; he’s in the WH.

I’m guessing that once Mueller’s investigation reaches it’s apex, Rump will be lashing out at EVERYBODY. He’s already shown that he believes that everyone should protect him because that’s their job in his mind (or what passes for it.)

Trump is just one giant screw-protocol fool …

Also - just had a "So, this just happened " … 9:00 AM East Coast Time - Phone rings - Robo-call from some organization located in Columbus Ohio - ostensibly going to do a ‘survey’ but launches into a diatribe about the unreasonable efforts afoot to impeach President Trump … goes on the say that ‘President Trump is right …’ alas my rejection reflex kicked in and ended the call
… now pondering this - and find it interesting that $$$ and time are being spent on this - would seem to be an indication of high anxiety in the Trump camp about the tide turning - but also suspect that the call was going to be a plea for $$$ - like the televangelist begging the views to send in all they have or else the church gets shut down. Trump will grift this to the end.

O.T. She’s been exhumed.

Then Conway demanded to know why Clinton is not doing the job of the president.
“Where’s her bipartisan effort to try to help with infrastructure and meaningful tax reform, or the opioid crisis that I work on in the building behind me every single day?” Conway asked.
Not that it should need to be said, but it is not standard for a former presidential candidate who does not hold elected office to try to pass infrastructure bills or tax reform. That’s the job of the actual president — a job he has been far too busy attacking his own party and defending white supremacists to do effectively.
Conway then pivoted to a flat-out lie. “She failed to make history,” Conway said.

I bet that Trump would dearly love to be able to ask Obama for advice—or even Hillary.

Flake has actually voted for the Trump position in about 95% of cases, and yet that’s not good enough. I think other Republicans are taking note and are disgusted. Particularly McConnell who needs every vote he can get.

I occasionally mis-read “Flake” as “flaky” — also works in this and other contexts.
