Yes! Tom Perez has spent his life working for the people the Democratic Party represents. Or the people who it should represent, at least. He is the man!

Ellison must pay for his endorsement of Bernie.

Expect establishment to rally to Perez.

Perez is a fine public servant, but i believe elected office is where he would be better and more effective.

You mean like the way Dean had to end his bid because Sanders is still butthurt that he supported Clinton? Because the only person exacting revenge and bullying people out of contention is Sanders.

Dean did a fine job.

HRC was very qualified and capable.

But we cant keep looking backward (in time) to solve our issues getting back into a better position. Dean for DNC is like trying to solve 2016 problems with 2006 answers. Just as Hillary would have crushed in 2008, but was not our strongest choice for '16 (even if most qualified)

Fyi i do not think choosing Perez is looking backward, just that establishment will back Perez to stick it to Ellison.

I would like someone to be in charge NOW. The Dems are flailing, doing absolutely nothing while the Trumpers are claiming ground everywhere. I know the Dem election is not till March, but no one is in charge now. Right now.

Donna Brazile had to resign because she did something that, if this were the Repub Party, she would have been rewarded for. Meanwhile, no one is stepping up and doing anything.

Dems are again zapping themselves by being far too trusting and nice. Stop it! This is war! This is for the soul and the future of our country!

Is this a joke?

Thereā€™s nothing like a divisive race to unite the party. If Ellison wins wonā€™t he be the establishment?

I was at a DNC officer candidateā€™s forum this past weekend, and all the candidates were really great and forward-looking. The NH party chair wasnā€™t great, but he was Skyping in, so that could have been the reason, or just a general lack of charisma/energy. But all the candidates proposed something like a marriage between the explicitly economic populist message of Sanders and the 50-state strategy of Dean. Ellison announced heā€™d resign his seat if elected, which tilted the room towards him. Jaime Harrison, chair of the SC Party, was very good, and was very smart in taking a moment to remember Sen. John Glenn and thank the Ohio crowd for giving him to the nation. Michael Blake, a Bronx representative from New York, made an excellent case for Vice Chair.

But no one spent time whining and sniping and trying to rehash the primaries. So itā€™d be nice if the sad, bitter Clinton and obnoxious, self-righteous Bernie supporters would take a lesson from them on this forum. And yes, Iā€™m talking about pluckyinky, answerfrog, and jonney_5.

If the candidates can focus on the issues and maintain a friendly competition, so should we, even if a few outside interests might try and inject themselves or stir shit up. I like Ellison and have been a supporter of his for a decade. But Perez would also be great!

I like Jaime Harrison. It takes a lot of moxie to be a Democrat in South Carolina.

Did any of the candidates mention the hacking?

Except that the establishment has already backed and endorsed Ellison.

I just stated a fact. Itā€™s a fact that Sanders nixed Deanā€™s candidacy because of anger over Deanā€™s decision to back Clinton in the primary. Truth and facts should continue to matter.

I dont expect overt divisiveness, Perez and Ellison will stay classy i presume.

I do expect the current establishment to rally to Perez, for the reason i stated.

Will the new DNC chair become the new establishment?

Hopefully so. I think either candidate could be good for the party as they are fresh(er) faces and can be both a symbol and agent of change

Co-sign esp to the quoted part. I mean, the next time someone from the D side says they will work/cooperate with the fascists Iā€™ll kick them hard in the ass.

True, some have (prior to Perez announcing interest)

I hope they continue to realize that besides being a good progressive voice, that choosing Ellison is symbolically as much a ā€˜FUā€™ to trump and his ilk as Choosing Sessions is to the progress the United States has made in the decades since Sessions was last nominated for something requiring senate confirmation.

And hereā€™s the thing ā€“ ā€œthe establishmentā€ in and by itself is not fundamentally a bad thing. I just think we need to resuscitate the word from the negative-labeling it got in this election cycle. All those attacks against it has been highly toxic wherever you are in the political spectrum.

For the record ā€“ I like Ellison. He seems to get what we are up against now, and I dinā€™t forget either he was among the first Sanders supporters who came out for Hillary once the primary race was decided. Despite all those positives he is under undeserved attack, which is unfortunate.

And needless to say I like Perez and Harrison a lot. I donā€™t want to let the media and some fanatics frame this as the primary war continued.

@doremus_jessup

Not that I know of. They should, though. I donā€™t get the silence.

Yes, it was the day after the WaPo report and it was a common topic of discussion. It was new enough that none of the candidates had fully-formed proposals on how exactly to respond, so it was mostly expressions of horror and citing it as an example of the stark need to organize against our new strongman.

ETA: The strongest and most direct comment I remember from the forum was from the Ohio party chairman, not one of the candidates, for clarification. It was discussed amongst the participants in the crowd much more extensively.

Citation needed.

The best recent DNC chair, Howard Dean, who rebuilt a 50-state party in the mid-2000s, wanted the job back, but Sanders vetoed that because he felt Dean had been disrespectful to him. Dean has now dropped out.

Iā€™m not interested in FUs as much as Iā€™m interested in winning in 2018 and beating the brakes off that mother fucker in 2020. I like Ellison a lot, but there are some issues there that imo arenā€™t worth it. I wanted Dean because I want somebody who is proven, tested, and knows how to do the job. This isnā€™t about Sanders or Clinton. Itā€™s about winning and fixing all the damage these people will do over the next 2-4 years. And it certainly wouldnā€™t hurt to have a white male in the role.
