I am gobsmacked!
I grew up in his district and know it very well.
I witnessed several elections there where the local dems didn’t even barely have a straw scarecrow to run against him.
Can they pick up an immigration bill that passed the Senate during the previous Congress? Wouldn’t a bill have to pass this current Senate too?
This is true. The nutbars are plenty and will be tossing their nuttiness around as never more to show they could do a whiz bang job. Tea baggers won’t follow a sane leader, and the sane members won’t follow a tea bagger, so good luck. They’ll need Pelosi’s sanity and even handedness more than ever to bail them out .
When you’re sitting in the Speaker’s chair and you’re crying just because the Pope is giving a speech in your workplace, it is time to go.
Speaker Scalise?
Whomever will immediately follow Boehner should scare the living s*** out of all of us but in the short term, Boehner can cut a deal with whatever is left of the pragmatic Republicans and the Democrats to avoid a shutdown. After that … all bets are off because whomever the next SOH is will almost certainly be somebody who is out to the right of Pontius Pilate.
Googling.
Edit: It was passed in the last congress in 2013, I think the Senate would have to pass it again.
Time to pursue that movie career…

My better half attributed all those tears to drunkenness.
Merlot Malady Takes Its Toll!!
That was my first thought, too.
No, if it was in the previous Congress and the House took no action, it dies and they have to pass it all over again in the Senate also.
meh honestly the house has no power as long as the dems hold the white house
and if trump gets in we’re all screwed anyway so
I was thinking that was the case. Thanks for the clarification, @AllieBean. Much appreciated.
From your keyboard to God’s ears. The debt ceiling brinksmanship scares me to death. Anybody with any actual knowledge or sense says it would be an unprecedented worldwide financial disaster to breach it. And you’ve got brain-dead TP zealots like Yolo who simply don’t believe that and have a bunch of constituents who don’t believe it either.
Is this a gift from god, delivered by the pope?
Definitely.Not.Good.News. With the government shutdown just days away all hell is going to brake loose in the GOP caucus. Just maybe we can hope some reasonable ones remain to vote with the Dems to break an impasse, but those prospects have taken a sharp downward turn.
I agree with others here. This is very bad. The House may surprise us and replace him with a relatively sane, moderate person. But I doubt it. Slim pickings on that front anyway. It’s a safe bet the frothiest mouth gets the job.
I never would’ve guessed in 2011 he’d last this long.
