Discussion: Reports: Rep. Ryan Zinke Tapped To Serve As Secretary Of The Interior

The only thing I know about this guy is that he appeared on a bunch of TV shows on The Military Channel and perhaps others that I saw on Cable, where they discussed the Osama Bin Laden raid, and his point was to be critical of President Obama and imply that President Obama did not deserve credit for ordering the raid or for its success. His political career was launched off of those appearances on TV. I would like to know his position on the Bundys and that issue of free use of public land. This guy wants to be President or Tom Cotton’s running mate.

If he’s up for Interior, then one (or all) of the following apply:

  1. He’s rich.
  2. He knows nothing about the agency or the land for which it’s responsible.
  3. He wants to drill and/or strip mine our national parks or sell the land to private parties.
  4. He wants to eliminate the Department of the Interior.

So what happened to McMorris Rodgers?

At least that’s a name that Tester can cross off the list.

Maybe

Typical Republican: “Obama didn’t kill bin Laden. Seal Team 6 did!”
Sensible person: “OK. By the way - why did we want bin Laden dead?”
Typical Republican: “He killed all of those people on 9/11!”
Sensible person: “No, he didn’t kill anyone. The people who died on 9/11 were killed by the hijackers, and all of them died that day.”
Typical Republican: “Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.!”

I’m also curious about her disappearing nomination. Maybe she didn’t want to hop in the flaming wreck? Or Trump/Bannon made a pass at her?

I also find it amazing how these guys/gals who wear their military service as their main credential are all so cool about endorsing for President and possibly serving in the administration of a man who went to a military academy high school for rich NY kids, deferred his draft number 4 times and then got Daddy’s MD to write him a bone spurs letter.

This appears to be an RNC/Pence pick. Aside from the early Rump support, I can’t imagine he knew who this guy was from yesterday’s taco bowl. He’s former military which is extra double goodness. (Can’t have too much brass, now can we?) At some point, after so many freaks have been exhausted, Pence is probably thinking that he needs to get people in there who can just do the damn job already. After all, he’s got to get to destroying the country as soon as possible.

Or it might have been Ryan

Btw aside from his wife’s first n maiden name, Zinke seems slightly normal.

Place your bets on what’s found in discovery.

It seems a lot like the Rick Perry pick. Just as Rick Perry is from Texas and Texas has a lot of oil which is energy, this guy is from Montana and Montana has a lot of federal land and is in the interior of the country.

Pure genius. Seems to show just how deep a thinker Trump is.

Then this will be revealing. In a lot of ways it explains his selection.

Why not Cliven Bundy? That would go over well with the Trump cult.

I will be very curious how this pick is explained. Zinke was a one term state senator, failed Lt. Gov candidate (he and his running mate finished 5th in the R primary), and was elected to just his second term in the House last month. Aside from, on paper, a laudable military career (which has what to do with managing Federal lands?), this guy is a nothing. He’s on record being against transferring Federal lands to state control, which will piss off the bat-shit crazy folks. He is on record having supported the limiting (or elimination of) tribal rights in favor of natural resource extraction, so there’s that…

"As a retired Navy SEAL officer, I also take exception to the looseness with which Ryan described his Navy career. Depending on which bio one reads, he was “a” or “the” commander in a certain high-capability Navy SEAL Team. He was never a commanding officer and was bypassed for possible consideration for promotion to captain as the result of his travel transgressions."
— excerpt of letter written by Captain Larry Bailey, USN (Ret.), who commanded Zinke while he was in his SEAL class

I wonder if it’s wise to consider this a win ? ? …

Think I’ll wait till they hatch —

It has been noted in the military, yes.

Dude, he is from Montana and Montana is in the interior of the country. None of its borders touch the ocean. How much more qualified do you want?

My understanding is that McMorris Rodgers and her neighbor, Alitia “Kitten” Widdacudgel Hammerstein, are going to team up to pursue their first love: Songwriting.

Who knew that the military had its own Onion?

Thank you. Very interesting reading and I admire his former commander for having the courage to go public. Funny how this particular person got to have a talking head role on the documentaries produced for The Military Channel and at least one other channel immediately after the Osama Bin Laden raid. He appears to be an ambitious self promoter. What my military career officer father used to call a bird dog.
