Discussion: Report: White House Vetting Nevada GOP Gov. Brian Sandoval For SCOTUS

Chammy, either I missed the tone or you did. I took it that Obama plays ‘compromise’ and the GOTP farts embarrassingly.

Nominate McConnell. That’ll tie him up in knots.

Exactly. And will everyone calm down here. Obama hasn’t said he was floating Sandoval. This is merely speculation by the media.

The appointment isn’t Harry’s decision, but Harry may have pitched Sandoval to the White House. Harry got Sandoval his first appointment as a Federal judge back when W was President.

Think of this as some epic trolling of Mitch McConnell. Foisting a centrist GOPer out there for some blood letting. Imagine the GOPers savaging one of their own who had been unanimously endorsed to be a judge in 2005. The savaging I mention is caused by and wholly due to the perceived skin color of our President on the part of the GOP. Their racism is out of control.

No, it´s true! My brother-in-law was comin´ back from hunting snipe out by where Ridge Road heads out south-east near the river, and he swears he saw one in the headlights for a full-on 8-10 seconds! Black Brooks Brothers suit with red tie! He was so close he could even see the comb-over!

The Washington Post story noted that the vetting was confirmed by several individuals close to the process, however, the White House did not comment. The spokesman for the White House has repeatedly said that the president has not narrowed his list of nominees to a “shortlist” yet.

Just more bullshit fem the WAPO who we know gets shit wrong every day,

I don’t think the president would actually nominate Sandoval. It’s too damn risky. McConnell would just change his mind, pat himself on the back for bluffing the president, and save his swing state senators a whole lot of headache. Obama would look terrible, like he got horribly played by McConnell. It’s extremely easy to see that outcome, so I highly doubt Obama would actually play that kind of game of high stakes chicken.

Looks to me like some epic trolling on the part of Obama. McConnell is having kittens right about now I bet.

Doesn;t sound like it to me but maybe my snark meter isn’t working

Yeah, he made great choices for who he’s nominated previously, so I’m sure his ultimate nominee will be another solid candidate. This seems to be just testing the GOP, and it’s a test they failed.

McC knows the game too. But now POTUS has denial on record for a “compromise” mention.

This is another unnamed source close to the process. I call bullshit when I hear it

It’s interesting to note that Earl Warren was the Republican Governor of California before he was appointed to the US Supreme Court. Prior to being chief justice, he was probably most famous for his role in the Japanese internment while he was the California Attorney General in 1942.

No one would have ever guessed that Earl Warren would be famous for the many progressive decisions he made while he was Chief Justice because of his history as Attorney General and Governor. Still, the Warren Court is remember mostly for its role in expanding civil rights, civil liberties and Federal power much to the surprise of those who approved of his appointment.

It’s not uncommon for a moderately conservative person to become more liberal after becoming a Supreme Court Justice (e.g. Souter, John Paul Stevens). I can’t think of any instances of a justice who became more conservative while on the Court. Perhaps the Supreme Court is one of the few positions that allows even many conservatives to see how unfair conservative ideology can really be.

Perhaps Obama has made this observation as well.
