I tend to believe the WH is floating Sandoval as a trial balloon and I believe theyā€™re probably pretending to very him. I also think thereā€™s a very good reason Sandoval didnā€™t run for Senate, and whatever the reason may be itā€™s also the reason the WH will use to rescind the nomination.

This feels like a trial balloon to make Senate Republicans look like assholes that they wouldnā€™t even confirm a popular Republican Governor to the Supreme Court. Obama knows by now McConnell wonā€™t let him get anything done so this feels like a middle finger to him if he does nominate Sandoval.

I donā€™t think theyā€™ll have to rescind it. I donā€™t think heā€™s the one. You float names publicly while you talk to the real candidate. It doesnā€™t make any strategic sense to actually nominate him, but it makes Obama look like he ā€˜lookedā€™ at Republicans too.

So far, it does not seem to be a game changing strategy. When asked about a Sandoval nomination, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) said Republicans would still hold firm no matter who the nominee was.

Exactly.Sandoval is Hispanic, Republican and (what used to pass for) moderate. This makes the Rethugs look even more assholish (IF that were possible) than before. Please proceed Rethugs to burn every single bridge you possibly can.

OMG. Please Obama knows what heā€™s doing. First of all, this is a media narrative. The President has not given anyone but his closest advisors any inkling of who he is going to pick. I love the over reaction to everything here. This is a media driven narrative and we know TPM loves the click bait
