Discussion: Report: US Diplomats Instructed To Sidestep Questions On Paris Accord

That makes no sense at all. We were driving home from DC today (not easy typing on an iPhone) and drove by the Lordstown plant in Ohio which now has a whole parking lot filled with solar panels. Other industries have switched to that or natural gas or windpower. It makes no sense to return to fossil fuels.

And being in DC was definitely a different experience this time. I looked at the Washington Monument and the Capitol and the city and just felt sad and angry.

“We have absolutely no idea what Trump might decide or impulsively tweet out as policy (or not), or whether any of that might still be in place (or even remembered by him) the next day. So basically, we have no fucking idea as to the answer to this or any other question about what might nostalgically be referred to as ‘policy’
but, thanks for asking.”

‘and just felt sad and angry.’

For sure- I spend most of my days avoiding that and when it hits, esp. when I connect w a friend I haven’t
seen since before the election, it’s just devastating.

“There is no better way for me to be more forthright and, most of all, steadfast in our position than to say, ‘Are you familiar with dos-à-dos?’” Rexxon’s most trusted minion asked.

Then a clock ticked, a faucet dripped, and a dog barked somewhere. And so it goes.

Can someone point me to any reliable analysis of how Trump came to pick Tillerson? On the surface, it makes no sense, since he wasn’t a crony and also had no governmental experience. I would like to find some other reason than the obviously cynical one, that Putin recommended him, but I’ll certainly settle for that if no one has found any other convincing story.

If you want to know whether this story is true, just take a look at our diplomats. See their dancing shoes?

I actually think this is sensible policy on Tillerson’s account; how else does one handle the Schrödinger’s Policy that is Donald Dump? How many times has a Trump-affiliated official said one thing, only to be completely contradicted by The Dumpster in Chief?

In an oblique way, mentoring en masse. Incoherent mumbling is probably a more professional response than the truth of, “Fucked if I know” and less embarrassing than the inevitable, public, contradiction that follows anything that isn’t praise for Putin.

Goddamned leakers! All these libs running around worrying about fake news climate change when the real problem is leaking of things that are vital to our national security - things like this!

Good question. This interested me so I took a look. They’re still called that due to the special security precautions taken, similar in intent if not in form to the original:

Still
 leaking leakers gonna leak!

Also, the war survivors will probably return to a coal-based civilization.

No need to worry about global warming if we are facing nuclear winter.

As I recall, he had no idea that he was being considered for SOS when he was interviewed, or for any cabinet position for that matter.

When he was offered the position he consulted with his wife, who told him that God chose him for the job.

IMO Trump was looking for someone with Russian ties who would be easily confirmed.
