Someone probably just wanted some beachfront property in San Diego.
And we know the government will just let them have it. So, it was probably really just a guy trying to evict trespassers from HIS land.

An active shooter has just been been reported in building #26 at Naval
Medical Center San Diego. All occupants are advised to run, hide or
fight.
Yeah, I’d say that covers most everything you could do in that situation. Or, maybe all 3 simultaneously. Thanks for the advice.

This is a US Naval facility which means it is federal property which means that local law enforcement doesn’t have jurisdiction. There are people there whose duty it is to fight.

That, and it’s probably an in order kind of thing. Run if you can. Hide if you have to. Fight if that’s only option.

This is a very large facility with many buildings. There is a comment on the Naval hospital’s Facebook page that the building the shooter is in is being used as a classroom for the military. I don’t know if that is true or not. Nor do I know if any of the military people on the campus are carrying weapons.
There are reports that both military police and swat teams are working on the situation. The surrounding area is heavily impacted. There are nearby schools on lockdown. The facility is near downtown San Diego, and all of traffic is being diverted from the area. My daughter works nearby and she just told me that " there are sirens everywhere" but I would suspect that is to bring in support (ambulances, swat teams, etc) , both civilian and military, to the area.
ETA: reports are now saying the building is a combination gym/barracks building and 3 shots were heard coming from the basement. Very little has been confirmed.
ETA2: SD newspaper is now reporting that the building is an administrative building, with hundreds of workers. A witness reporting seeing a shooter on the 3rd floor of the building shoot 3 times into the air. This happened at 8 am San Diego time. There have been no reports of injuries and there have been no reports of any additional shooting since then.

As sad as it seems, fighting is always on option in such an event. It is the last option, after fleeing or hiding, but it is still an option.
