Discussion: Report: Security Alarm at George H.W. Bush's Home Was Broken Since 2013

Discussion for article #235606

“Secret Service personnel protecting Bush noticed a failure in the alarm system at Bush’s Houston home in September 2013. A temporary alarm wasn’t installed until April 2014.”

How can that be 13 months ? ( In Denmark November usually counts as 4 months (all dark and cold), but in Houston, Texas?).

Is it really the taxpayers’ responsibility to fix these things at these folks’ private homes?

(Plus, as ClausCPH notes above, the months do not add up to 13. Try 7).

Edit: I am not suggesting the Secret Service shouldn’t protect former presidents and their spouses – just that the alarm system in that home should be maintained by the owner of said property. Thank you.

Yeah, I was thinking, the story really is “Secret Service detects alarm problem; Bushes decide not to fix it.”

Presumably the 4 months before temporary alarm was added to another 9 months before this item reached the top of the To Do list of either the family or the agency…

Bingo. With all that ill-gotten loot that crime family has (my opinion), they could at least upkeep their own damn property so the Secret Service can perform their services properly.

The Secret Service has also found that security equipment problems exist at the homes of other former presidents. Their names were removed from the public version of Roth’s report.

I’m going out on a limb here, but maybe Jimmy ----, Bill — , and George W. ----.

I guess the Secret Service is also protecting R. -----'s spouse. Still, that’s only four options.

13 months is the un-skewed number.

Yes, it’s part of the protection detail. The alarms and monitoring are all charged to the taxpayers. What it doesn’t mention, in all it’s ‘alarming’ glory, are the agents that are either staying in his basement or a place on the property. He has onsite protection, they all do, so he wasn’t exactly flapping out in the wind waiting to be attacked by some nutter.

There is an internet meme that goes around about Hillary charging the secret service rent when they stayed at her property in Chappaqua. It’s actually true, because by law they are required to do it. It’s all a really interesting setup.

It was revealed that in 2008 former First Lady Barbara Bush befriended a biker gang that had wandered undetected onto the property and later, without Secret Service knowledge, toured the Southwest in their company as a sort of unofficial but no less ruthless gang enforcer…

Oh, wow. Thanks for the info about the rent – I guess I kind of understand it …

I figured the Bushes, Clintons, Nancy Reagan, the Carters, were all covered with respects to round-the-clock bodyguards.

Yeah, I kind of wish they’d go ahead and end Dick Cheney’s protection… There is some sort of limit, but usually the sitting President extends the time frame. Obama has done it at least once. I wish he’d stop.
