It’s especially egregious after Rick Perry was beclowned by his staff into chatting with a fake Ukranian dignitary (PM I think?), oh… what, like two weeks ago?
Expect it to continue, I guess, because these dingleberries have no ability to hire competent rank-and-file underlings for the day-to-day business of running the office.
Steven Schmidt was making a point the other day (maybe yesterday?) that for the first time in history, America is no longer in a position to lead our allies.
IMO, Schmidt is decidedly understating the problem. Yes, there are undoubtedly serious questions our allies would have regarding basic competence before following us into a conflict. But perhaps more troubling, because of Trump’s numerous international conflicts of interest, and his pattern of deflection and distraction to deal with bad domestic press, its highly likely they will be incredibly suspicious of our motives in any conflict. And rightly so.
But an issue that Schmidt does raise is pertinent. Our lack of standing only encourages other players to setup to the plate and take their swing.
“We will restore faith in America abroad” will, for the first time in my life and yours, be an actual legitimate campaign issue. That’ll be fascinating to see.
It will be. But its going to a hell of a lot easier to promise it on the campaign trail, than it is going to be to deliver it. Because there is no good answer to an ally asking “How do we know you won’t elect another person like Trump?”
LOL! How fucking stupid are these people? I can just see it now…Trump running amok in his bathrobe after his 4th straight hour of Faux News was interrupted, demanding that someone, anyone let poor Prince Albert out of the can so he can return to his Faux News briefing. We joke about idiocracy but my god they’ve really and truly achieved it. All is now pointless.
