Discussion: Report: Melania Trump Worked With A Trump Ghostwriter For Her Speech

TPM:

The New York Times reported Tuesday evening that Melania Trump worked with a ghostwriter who had previously written for her husband. Meredith McIver helped Melania Trump edit her speech, though it was unclear how much she worked on it.

So, you’re telling us that the speech wasn’t working, and the Trump’s brought someone in to … wait for it … McIver a fix?

As fascinating as this saga is, it’s a perfect example of what happens when you are incapable of owning up to your mistake.
The longer this goes, the deeper the findings, the more embarrassing it gets.
Now the story truly has legs.

So, the campaign (or Melania), dismissed the speech written by a professional in favor of one written by one of your husbands yes men / women.
I haven’t seen or heard from Heil Trump all day today.
You can see how disastrous this is that in the second day of his on going coronation there is nothing from his blustering lying mouth or fingers.
Humiliation is a bitch eh?

This convention is starting to look like a bad segment of “Family Feud” with one team on stage.

I saw the speeches over and over, and I am beginning to think the speechwriter was deliberately screwing Trump. I didn’t believe it when someone said there was a rick roll in the speech, but I saw it, yep, that is surely a devious and deliberate prank by the speechwriter. Melania never would have known what it meant.

But I am also convinced that Melania’s speech would have copied even MORE of Michelle Obama’s speech, but she obviously mangled a few phrases so she truncated a few sentences. And there is the point: Obama’s speech was filled with fluent American phrasings, even distinctive Midwestern speech patterns. This is not how a European immigrant with limited English ability speaks. It’s not how she even speaks with extensive coaching. And afterwards, Trump publicly complimented her on how well-spoken she was. That’s the Trump Reality Distortion Field firing a pre-emptive shot, making sure nobody criticized her mangled English. It was patronizing to Melania.

Earlier today on TPM there was an article in which Melania said she wrote the speech herself. And it had very little revision.
What am i to believe?!
I call bullshit on Melania.

My secret hunch is that Ivanka offered to “help” her stepmother re-write the speech that had been prepared for her.

She mangled the explanation, she said she got “a little help as possible.” Maybe she meant “as little help as possible” but the way she said it, it was like she just meant she got a little help and then with The Donald hovering over her, she pulled back and said “as possible”

Nobody in trump’s orbit has a mind of their own. All must be abased to The Donald.

There is a good theory over at Digby’s.

A) Donald is interviewed before hand saying he would probably edit Melania’s speech, to add ideas and jokes.

B) One of the networks has reported that the speechwriter insists the version he handed in didn’t have that paragraph.

Is Trump’s head so far up his own a$$ that he thinks nobody would notice he has plagiarized the current first lady’s speech? He probably asked an intern to get him a copy of every Flotus speech since Eleanor Roosevelt, Started reading from the top of the pile and stopped reading at the first inspirational passage, not even bothering to wonder who he was stealing from.

Mm-hmm.

Ms. McIver may be making the odd career move from ghostwriter (actually DO the work but no one knows who you are) to professional fall guy (had nothing more to do with the speech than I did, but getting ready to take the blame publicly). You’ll know it’s a frame-up when McIver adopts the signature Trump style of wild overcorrection, telling everyone that Melania is the greatest writer who ever lived.

That’s an interesting theory, especially in light of Trump praising Melania for being so eloquent, which of course would mean he was complimenting himself for putting words in her mouth. And everything The Donald says is about The Donald.

But I don’t think Trump knows what a rick roll is, so that sort of spoils the theory.

Keep in mind, that what we are really watching unfold, is not what actually happened, but the creation of a story that they can possibly spin with a scapegoat at the end that they can blame.

This is amateur hour at its worst. They have no viable “outs” for this, so they are forced to create something out of thin air, that, while not entirely palatable, will at least soothe the howls from within the GOP to just loud grumblings.

Notice for example, that the person being named here is…a woman. Which from a Trump campaign perspective, is the perfect target. An English major that is into ballet, to boot. I’ll bet she sips fruity teas, too.

I know you are right, yet I wonder how many people out there are buying this bullshit.
We here at TPM get it, but, in the grand scheme of things, we are a minority.

A Trump Ghostwriter

Nearly Headless Sal?

If that is true, it would seem to be very 'Parent Trap" or any of those other movies featuring an evil stepmom and a scamp of a a girl plotting to get dad back with his true love.

After all, let’s look at the known facts: Ivanka and Chelsea Clinton have been friends for years. Ivanka would be “un–fireable” if caught. And although I don’t know for sure, I suspect her of having more brains than most of the others in the Trump camp. Plus, she’s young enough to have thought of the Rickroll idea.

So, put that all together with the (unknown but possible) scenario that there is no love lost between her and Melania and…
Well, let’s just say that a good, scheming mind could certainly come up with a wicked (and I mean that in the best possible way) plan to humiliate her step-mother in front of millions of people. Without the step-mother even having a clue, until the inevitable s*t-storm hit her the next day.
