Discussion: Report: Marine Gen. Allowed Leaks To Show How Border Wall Was Hurting Military

Well he’s fired. Glad there are people in the government willing to go there, but there are far too few.

Again Mr. President; all this waning.

@grandpajoe he is retiring this year, so is probably saying “f—k it”.

Good to know. Have to assume he’s a conscientious officer.

Gen. Robert Neller, the commandant of the Marine Corps, let internal Defense Department memos leak recently to show the damage [Trump’s] wall obsession is doing to military families and combat readiness.

Morituri te salutamus.

If you are an American, LEAK IT!

While obviously I like the outcome, having generals play politics by leaking informaton is really dangerous. It undermines civilian control of the military. Wasn’t it General McCrystal who used leaks and interviews with the media to box Obama into doing a surge in Afganistan. Total waste of lives and resources.

Well, it’s the old loaf-bread-hungry-children thing. What’s wrong in general may be right in a particular case.

True.

But sometimes the ends do justify the means.

If Neller did authorize these leaks, he’ll face the consequences.

More like whistle blowing then playing politics, drump is endangering the country by playing politics with the military.

He surely has his retirement timed so that he gets full payout of his military pension right now. If not Trump will be sure to fire him pronto should it deprive him of some or all of it.

Fully endorse.

When the next dem POTUS wants to cut a wasteful program or keep us out of a war, I don’t want to see leaks from generals.

He’s ready for retirement. Just hope it is at the current pay grade and without other judicial issues. Retaliation is strong in this maladministration.

I guess tRump fucked with the wrong Marine.

[/quote]And General Neller knew both of these things going into his decision. Good for him for being a patriot and caring about his troops, their families, and the country.

Dems should ask him to come testify about it in congress.

Somebody is awfully close to retirement.

Reportedly, his motivation was “to show the damage [Trump’s] wall obsession is doing to military families and combat readiness.”

So far I see no reason to doubt this – although I do not know the man personally.

Could this be some John McCain payback?
