Discussion: Report: Harry Reid Won't Seek Re-Election In 2016

They all have got to go sometime, 2016 seems to be as good of a time as any for Reid.
The opportunity for this to be a wave election for the Democrats is all lined up, so lets get some newbies in and start working on dealing with the reality of modern conservatism rather than playing nice-nice with people that aren’t ever going to get along.

Isn’t Durbin the No. 2? He has more seniority than Schumer

I’m tired of the 60/40 majority which was only the case for a short period. Do you remember the Al Franken-Norm Coleman debacle? Teddy Kennedy passing away? Byrd was being wheeled about and with serious health problems himself. As for the committee that you talk about, the reason they were courting Baucus and Conrad and Snowe was because they needed those folks’ votes to get anything passed… Sure he could have appointed 4 liberals v. the three republicans, but what’s the point if you can’t guarantee 60 votes?

Yes, franken joined the senate in june 2009. while ted passed away august.

IF harry was any good at his job, he would have devised a better plan that to waste two years f’ing around.

By the way, there is NO constitutional requirement for 60 votes. A simple majority is required, that’s 51. (50 senators, plus the VP) This 60 vote mandate is the old guys in the senate rule. Not the constitution.

Maybe, but Schumer is going to be the one. I will resist the urge to break into an “I told ya so” dance…mostly because my heel isn’t quite up for it yet.

Indeed, I’m hoping we see Senator Harris very soon.

I hope you’re right…Paul is going to try to weasel out of that, would be no surprise to me if he succeeds…didn’t know Rubio has no option, I thought he could run for Senate

He can, but he has vowed not to if he runs for President. But, its Rubio, so who knows what he will do?

Paul is going to try to keep a foot on both boats, until it becomes clear he isn’t winning the nomination. Then he will drop out and run for Senate. The state GOP is already on board with fiddling with the Senate primary to give him so lee way. But he cannot be on both ballots come general election. He can’t even be a write in candidate.
