Discussion: Report: GOP Senators To Be Outspent By Dems In Final Weeks Of The Campaign

They are sending a message to Putin supporters. They are telling them that bad things are going to happen and they have Putin to blame.

We need 6-8 to avoid a disaster in 2018.

That is actually one of the downsides to the Trump voter suppression strategy. When you go totally negative you not only knock down your opponents turnout, you knock down your own. In this case I don’t think any Democrats are going to stay home, but a lot of Republicans disgusted with their party might. That could result in a Democratic wave.

I live in Issa’s district as well. I just moved up here after having lived in Susan Davis’s district for 17 years. What a shock to have a republican representative. Shocking because the people who live in this beautiful coastal area (I live in Carlsbad) are not like Issa. They are very mellow and somewhat liberal, but I can only speak to where I live. I know it’s a large district, so I’m sure if you go away from the coast east people get more redneck. Issa is a bad fit for the district, much like Bob Dornan was a bad fit for his district. Issa is a Trumpkin. There’s no trick about that. We, the voters need to celebrate the Halloween spirit by treating him to his last day in office.

I wondered the same thing. Trump apparently blocked anyone on his staff from doing opposition research, but what was stopping the RNC? F’ing idiots. They deserve everything they’re getting.

JEB! had $100 million to play with, before the primaries started. His campaign could have found tons of dirt.

And it shouldn’t have cost him $100 million. All he had to do was ask his nephew Billy! Hahahaha!

First cousin, if I’m not mistaken.

This may be party spending, but there’s a lot of pro-Toomey spending in Philly region from chamber of commerce, Club for Growth (Toomey’s previous gig), Koch connected superpacs and others. Trump has spent a lot of time in the burbs (Ivanka was here a couple of days ago and never got asked about daddy by the friendly “town hall”) where GOP still has a - shrinking - base. Attack ads against McGinty making her rich and questionable. Low class and irritating, but in this market clearly they’re doing a lot of spending to protect Toomey. GOTV still major important.

I think enough Republicans are demoralized by the drip
drip
drip of constant heinous accusations against Trump,

The vast majority of Trump diehards completely disregard the allegations against Trump. Joan Walsh has an interesting article up at The Nation, and spoke with a Trump supporter who said this:

"ï»żShe also mocked the women who accused Trump of assault. “What we say in private, who cares? The other day, a bunch of women at work: We was talking trash talk, about sex and everything else, it’s what we do. None of us are saints. Who cares?” She doesn’t care if he grabbed these women against his will? “Who said he grabbed them? And lemme tell you right now: Back in the day, a billionaire had come by, I’d have been wanting him to grab me! I’m sure they were wanting him to grab them.” Then she added, “Even though I am a victim of sexual assault.” I told her I was sorry for that, and she brushed it off. “That right there with the women, if it happened, I’m sure it was wanted.”

Yes, this is from a female Trump supporter. There’s no reaching these people.

For the sake of the Republic every Republican candidate and office holder should denounce Trump in no uncertain terms. They do not have to endorse Sec. Clinton but at the very least they must disassociate themselves from this cancer. If they fail to do it they must be held accountable in the future.

I thought last-minute advertising wasn’t all that helpful? Wasn’t that Romney’s strategy?

I want Issa gone so badly that I live in Texas, have never lived in California, and I’ve donated to Applegate’s campaign. Applegate seems to be a decent man and a good candidate, and I hope Californians agree.

Issa is a blight on humanity, much less any political party, and I want him to have to crawl back into whatever cesspool he emerged from and stay there.

True enough.

But the segment of Republicans comprised by educated people (particularly women), suburbanites, the country club establishment types are disillusioned at this point
and it’s still a pretty large swath of the party.

It’s bewildering to me when I see how many people there are in this country who are unwilling to accept facts. They’re quite literally delusional when it comes to Trump and the Republican party. It’s like a form of insanity, and I haven’t the slightest idea how they can be made to see reality.

For the presidential race, last minute ads aren’t seen as being quite as valuable. They are geared more to motivating the base or getting voters to the polls, but have little chance at defining the candidate (or their opponent) since the race has received such sustained coverage for several months prior.

Down ticket races, by contrast, have a tendency to break late since they don’t receive much coverage until the final weeks. So having more visibility on ads at the end of the campaign has more likelihood of making a difference, particularly in tight races.

They can’t their “base” i.e. racist, bigots that always vote gop/bag, will be mad
and might not vote for them!

Speaking as someone in a state that is pretty safely going to democrats (Oregon). I’m all about not having to watch oppo-ads on the tee-vee. So please, feel free to spend that money elsewhere
