Discussion: Report: Clinton Campaign Says She's Already Locked Up 1/5 Of Delegates

Not just a Biden reality check. It is a not so subtle note to the party and her supporters that says a la Obama, “Stay cool, we’ve got this.”

Jesus on a waffle! Someone fire her strategists (you’re going to be hearing me say this alot I fear). Yes, she’s trying to snap back at the conservative media’s attempts to manufacture a narrative that she’s sinking, she’s in deep trouble, the party and base are abandoning her, that Benghazi and the email nontroversies are “working,” that there’s some sort of frantic, desperate behind-the-scenes recruitment search going on to find a backup because the Dem/liberal ranks are deeply worried about her viability, etc. etc…but this is just stupid, appears arrogant and persumptuous and is somewhat offensive in light of the way the primary and nomination process is supposed to work.

This feeds the perception of her as having an oversized sense of entitlement. Nobody’s fucking voted yet, lady. At least on paper, you shouldn’t have ANY delegates yet. Moreover, responding like this to Faux and the rest trying to create the “uh oh, the ship is sinking” narrative just feeds it and gives it legitimacy. She should be acting completely and utterly dismissive of that nonsense, not trying to find a clever way to rebut it.

Edit: as to Biden, I think if they’re smart, they know he’s not really a huge threat this time, which means this would be an unnecessary jab in that direction. Biden only factors in here as he relates to being one of the “backups” the MSM is trying to sell as part of the overarching narrative of her campaign “flailing” in response to “worrisome poll results” and “sinking approval” and “all the damage being done by her scandals”. Too bad this random announcement looks just like “flailing.” So I suppose that leaves me wondering if they’re really as smart as I think they should be.

Bingo. This is exactly why I can’t manage to completely dismiss the cold fear that she has the intuitive retail political smarts of Martha Coakley. HRC should have made it clear months ago to every fucking team member that any appearance or display of hubris, arrogance, or outsized confidence would result in dismissal from the campaign.

The only caveat is that this story is coming from the galactically smug asshat Mark Halperin, and it’s entirely possible that he’s purposefully misrepresented the actual statements of the Clinton team.

From what I understand, only superdelegates are free to pledge their vote, and they make up only 20% of the delegates. Given that we haven’t had any primaries, and so the other 80% hasn’t been determined, are they claiming that she’s locked ALL the superdelegates?

Ok, just so I understand, the person who is working her ass off to win our votes, is clearly the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, really the only person in the race who is winning endorsements (Sanders has 11!!), and the candidate locking down significant numbers of super delegates is supposed to act like she hasn’t done any of that? She’s supposed to awe shucks her way to the nomination? She has to be super humble and smiley and say that if people are kind enough to vote for her then by gosh she knows her faith will help her win? At no point Hillary is allowed to toot her own horn, flex her muscle, ward off any challenger?

Whatever.

Many die-hard Clintonites have complained that the only way Obama beat her was locking in super delegates early. If true, seems she learned the lesson well.

Its coming from Mark fucking Halperin, who always says he “has it on good authority” and is generally in the art of bullshit from inside the DC bubble. He’s always been a hack with an agenda. He is specifically invited to go on that show to bloviate about Hilary’s “distrustfulness” and sow divisiveness among those of us on the left. Just a couple words of caution: Take anything he has to say with a grain of salt.

He should really stick to Pilates for GOP mega-donor confabs:

Davy Crockett, Walt Disney and Apple Pie?

Seriously, Dems are held to a different, certainly less Machiavellian, standard.

The MSM doesn’t help either.

Felony rap (Walker)…“Nothing to see here!”
Felony rap (Christie)…“Nothing to see here!”
Serial Liar (Trump)…“Nothing to see here!”
Seditionist (Cruz)…“Nothing to see here!”

I could go on.

It is because the Democratic establishment is scared to death that Hillary’s campaign not going to win the general election. Before people start posting silly head-to-head polls where she leads virtually unknown candidates, those polls don’t matter. Furthermore, in those polls, as you said she is the incumbent, she is stuck, and has been for awhile, in the low to mid 40s. But the proof that they don’t think she is going to make is the fact that they are recruiting Vice-President Biden to get into the race.

They know that Sanders will not win a general election campaign, they know O’Malley is a light weight and Webb has zero chance.

Therefore they need a candidate with national appeal and on the Democratic bench there are only really three candidates, VP Biden, Sec of State Kerry and fmr-VP Gore.

But the only reason they stuck with him was the fact that he was winning contest after contest. If Hillary would have, after she won New Hampshire, won Nevada and South Carolina instead of Obama winning them, she would have put him away and those Super Delegates would have just switched.

Calm down. I didn’t say that. There’s a difference between “I’m working hard” and “my hard work has already paid off.” I don’t get where you think I’m talking about “aw shucks” or her not flexing muscle. I’ve been extremely critical of her not “flexing muscle” in other ways. I just think this particular way of doing so is ineffective and counterproductive, particularly as it relates to the preconceived notions and perceptions people already have of her and the MSM’s blatant attempts to knock her down a peg in order to get themselves some horse race narrative.

Lots of Salon articles I know…but they all do a fine job summing up this asshole. So take your pick if you want. They all say what an asshat this guy is…

Please don’t anyone here take this guy seriously. Seriously. You’re wasting your day. Just consider the source. A truism with any political reporting.

I just heard one of the smartest comments about Democrats. Mark Murray said, “Democrats are skittish. Democrats are naturally skittish people.” He talked about the infamous first debate and the fallout and how we tend to freak the fuck out (present company most definitely included…remember my meltdown?). We tend to go nuts at the slightest indication that something is going wrong. I suspect that HRC’s people are trying to cool the concerns of and signal to the party to calm down.

This talk about superdelegates is just another way to say what we already know, that the party insiders are pushing for Clinton very, very hard and other candidates need not apply. The Democratic party is not really very democratic.

This was not a conversation she had with the press or to the voters “purported conversations between Clinton’s senior advisers and delegates at the Democratic National Committee’”. She is making the case that Biden really doesn’t stand a chance, and for everybody to calm down, she’s got this. She is pointing out to them that she is far more organized at the state levels, she has far more money, and she has far more support from the party. All of that is factually true…Biden getting in at this late date would be in a deep, deep hole.

Halperin in his typical fashion, ignored all the that and cherry picked one comment to back up a completely different storyline…the one you are buying into, that she is bragging to everyone and counting her chickens before they hatch. And that is not even remotely close to what was being done.

I mean, is the front runner by huge margins, supposed to go the DNC and say “I’m not sure I can win this thing”?

Whaaaat? You’ve got to be kidding me. Halperin would never, ever do that. I mean, this is great news for John McCain.
