Discussion: Report: Casino Magnate Sheldon Adelson Behind Secret Purchase Of Nevada's Largest Paper

This should have been the 1st guess all along.

It’s no secret the US Oligarchs are trying to muzzle the free press and when you have more money than god, you buy up as much of the media as possible.

The MSM in the US is now the most concentrated, narrow, and conservative since our nation was founded. The Republican controlled congress and Bush’s FCC moved to allow media consolidation…good ole Rupert isn’t the only right winger moving in on the US Media.

We at least have the internet…but Trump is planning to shut that down as well.

He will try to do to Nevada what he did to Israel–distort the news to try to hand political power over to the GOP (aka Netanyahu in Israel). He created a free paper for Israelis and it quickly out competed all the serious newspapers there, it is relentlessly pushed an ugly, hawkish line. Israeli politics followed suit, to the dismay of normal, intelligent Israelis.

I’ll have very mixed emotions on the day when Adelson, Rupert Murdoch and Dick Cheney are fighting it out to see who gets the blood of the last unicorn. I’ll be sad about the extinction of the unicorns, but it won’t be without at least some silver lining.

“…journalists, including those on the Review-Journal’s own staff, speculated that the newspaper was purchased for political influence.”

Duh.

Great. Now I don’t have to read any Israeli newspapers to know what Netanyahu thinks about anything.

So it was purchased with foreign money. I wish an enterprising journalist and attorney general would investigate.

$10 says that most of the staff ends up walking out on him within 6 months (and I think that’s being generous).

This dude had better hope he doesn’t run into someone who takes The Walking Dead a little too seriously.

The Kochs, this Adelson asshole, and Murdoch and Ailes are seriously right out of the movies with this cabal crap. This is some movie villain stuff right here. I truly can’t fathom people who have it all, and still want more. It hurts my brain.

I always thought of Ariel Sharon being Jabba, actually. And that stupid Muppet that was hanging around Jabba and laughing reminded me of Yasser Arafat. I thought the two should have patched up their differences and gone out as “Ariel and Yasser as Jabba and that Muppet cackling near Jabba.”

Ughhhhhh…

The greasy old fart dyes his hair.

Figures.

The mystery of who purchased Nevada’s largest daily newspaper last week for $140 million may be solved…

Solved? Yes.
Surprised? No.

Way to go Sheldon!
You drop a huge chunk of cash on the loser (R)omney et al.
($93M in the 2012 cycle.)
Now you drop a chunk on a dying medium.

I guess you could buy Marco Rubio-- he comes across as a cheap bauble.

And yet I know of none that actually do so. I’m sure there are many, but no one I ask knows of a school conforming to that bit of insanity. Of course if the legge doesn’t start funding schools again it will all be moot.

Let’s be clear: Sheldon Adelson is a flaming pile of shit with a combover so bad it makes The Donald’s combover look positively respectable.

Funny that it says Texas is “indivisible.” I thought Texas was divisible. http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

That may be true, PB. But because he bought a newspaper, we can all now rest assured that he’s a great supporter of the First Amendment.
