No this is about the GOP running scared in Texas which ought to be very obvious by now. Four other Texas Congressmen have quit or said they aren’t running again. Four judges (and in Texas they run from parties for their benches) switched from R to D - and that spoke volumes. Most people vote for judges by party because they don’t know who the people are. What that tells me is that they have looked at the polling and figure they have a much better chance of being elected by people pushing the D button.

I thought we were going to - the map has been in the courts and one court held it was discriminatory by intent but I don’t know now.
Dallas Co. defeated gerrymandering in '06 simply with Democratic turnout. Despite how gerrymandered we are we threw 49 GOP out of office in that midterm and went blue and keep going bluer every election since.
So it can be done - but the whole key is massive turnout. We turned out in '06 because we were mad that W got a second term. Right now most of the country is absolutely furious that this vile excrescence is president and I expect epic turnout and possible reduced turnout for them since their man is in power and they aren’t mad like they were in 2010.

Side note - Old Lindsey doing one of his “support the president” flip flops - caught in funny tweet discrepency. Doubt he will get much credit from Trump for being supportive (which he is half of the time, and the flips back to not being supportive.)

Yes, given what happened to Wiener, it seems like Barton should resign too. But in fairness, Conyers appears to have been harassing women who worked for him and retaliating against them when they would not do as he asked. In my book that is a lot worse than sending salacious pictures without any threats to someone you don’t have personal power over. We need to look at these cases individually even if they are all stomach turning.

Thanks! Texas is a perfect template for what has happened in America - the cities and their counties are blue. It’s the suburbs, the small towns and the rural areas that are red as blood because of Evangelical bullshit. We suffer under the weight of way too many fucking Southern Baptists, Pentecostals and storefront cowboy “churchs” about every 5 feet in Texas.
But our demograhics are on the verge of exploding in a shower of beautiful blue votes.

This pissed me off on election night 2016:
46.9% did not even bother to pay any attention to their own future, THEY.DID.NOT.CARE. Therein lies why we are here now. Not giving a shit. 3.15% shy of half of eligible voters stayed home. I haven’t really got the vocabulary to describe my revulsion at that sort of blase negligence. It’s not about Hillary or trump. It’s caring about America and their own right to have their voice heard. THIS IS SHAMEFUL IN THE EXTREME

Can we please maybe get over using this last election as a template for anything other than a successful Russian program to fuck with an American election?
I know people didn’t turn out - they didn’t like their choices and the campaign was disgusting and a sideshow and lots of people just wanted to wash their hands of it. It’s over done with and gone.
Historically, midterm turnout is high in the party out of power. We are out of power in a big way and we’re fucking furious.

I don’t think it’s all religion. I think there is also a big chip (cow or otherwise) on their shoulders against those who are educated (I won’t even qualify it with “highly” as any level of erudition seems to stick in their craw.) It makes them ripe for plucking by the likes of trump and roy boy.

The GOP has fallen one hell of a long ways since I last voted for GOP for President.
(GHW Bush, who did a fantastic job of forming a coalition to defeat Iraq in Gulf War 1.

Any republican who would vote for a pedophile RWNJ because apparently keeping a majority in the Senate is far far more important than morals or principles. The GOP of my youth has permanently left the building. The Evangelical movement is what has driven the south’s politics along with racism, but that’s just a constant - like Planck’s Constant, you always include it even if it isn’t always express.
The GOP these days all use tactics learned from Televangelists. It’s all outrage all the time about something Liberals have done or plan to do.
Uneducated voters don’t organize shit - Evangelicals do it for them.
