My great grandfather was Kenesaw Mountain Landis, 1st Commissioner of Baseball. And my tiny home town was the birthplace and home of Walter “Smokey” Alston who managed the Dodgers from 1948 into the 70’s. He was a dear friend.

My son’s great-great-great (more greats?) maternal grandfather was Major Robert Anderson, commander of Ft. Sumter at the start of the Civil War. He issued the command to Capt. Abner Doubleday to fire the first shot in the war.
