Wonderful response by PC Anderson. I couldn’t help by think the whole paragraph below applied to FAUX “news” viewers and tea party people, even though, in general it does apply to us all.
“… we have a tendency to limit our association with other persons to those persons who are most like us…By considering only the thoughts and ideas we are in agreement with, we stay in our comfort zone. Our own biases get reinforced and reflected back at us leaving no room for any opinion but our own. By doing this, we often convince ourselves that the majority of the world shares opinion and that anyone with another opinion is, obviously, wrong.”

This is how a public servant spokesperson should communicate; with intelligence, reason, and inclusively. When you and your fellow officers turn your backs to the Mayor, you’re also turning your backs to the 73% of NYC who voted for the Mayor.

Wow. Wonderful response from the Nashville Chief of Police, with calm and rational, solid points. I sincerely hope that the person who wrote the letter doesn’t just brush it off as more apologies, but takes the time to reflect on what was being said. Also, if more police officers would speak out like this, it would go a long way in convincing the people that have loss their confidence in the police that there are plenty out there that understand and support.

When some lunatic conducts an act of terror in the name of Islam, the idiot right always demands that Muslims denounce the act. And even though many do, that’s never enough for them. Well, Fucks News, if it applies to Muslim clerics, it certainly applies to police officers.
So, all the good cops across America must speak up and distinguish themselves from this minority of loudmouth thugs who cast a tarnish on their badge.
This chief is clearly a public servant we can all admire, well, all of us except for the self-proclaimed “non-racists” who demand the police start clamping down on all these uppity n!ggers and put them back in their place, and the thug cops bound and determined to do just that.

Obviously the piece wasn’t written by the department’s PR flack before being edited by the city attorney. From its style and thoughtfulness it is clear the chief wrote it himself. He is the kind of guy you would love to have as your police chief.

I agree. However, I do have complaint about the grammar in the headline. The sentence is confusing. It should read, "In a Powerful Letter, Police Chief Tells Pro-cop Critic to Respect Protesters. The protesters are not in the letter. At least don’t think they are!

Please copy these lines a thousand times and distribute them to the NYPD, with a hundred copies going to Patrick Lynch himself:
"First, it is laudable that you are teaching your son respect for the police and other authority figures. However, a better lesson might be that it is the government the police serve that should be respected. The police are merely a representative of a government formed by the people for the people—for all people."
